Green men carvings are also common in churches. And tbh who doesn’t want a pagan animistic fertility man riding alongside Christ during church service? Here is one of the most well known (and splendid), from Norwich Cathedral.

One of the best books I’ve read in 2023–Inciting Joy by Ross Gay. If you haven’t read it, do. These are grand, sweeping, smart, heartbreaking essays on love, grief, masculinity, mental health, race, gardening, resistance, and yes, joy, and how all those things tumble together and intersect 💜

Day 1 in London. I got very teary visiting the memorial for Anne Boleyn on Tower Green, and St Peter Ad Vincula chapel, where she’s buried, after a year of researching and writing her story. Luckily we saw no snakes 🐍

This is a picture of my great grandfather ~1910 at his 1st communion. He went on to be a bootlegger during prohibition, selling booze to Al Capone. The look on his face! He used to bellow for my great grandmother to tie his shoes when they were old & she’d do it, even then bc she was scared of him.
