The cat and the heliconia volunteer. There are better heliconias next door, but better than the crabgrass volunteer in another smaller pot.

Heliconia flower, a volunteer in my ginger pot.

Vet said female vulva with castration scars. From what I've been reading maybe XXY, gender non-conforming. He had to sedate the cat to find the scars without getting scratched hands.

Male cat with mixed coat colors much more common in female cats.

In the 60s, Eisenhower and others declared that Sweden had high suicide rates because of socialism. Sweden began working on mental health interventions (and some of the depression were due to seasonal darkness which can be helped by the right lights). No longer high suicide rates.

Thinking about living in Nicaragua and trying to think about how I measure economic improvement. Basically, it's what I couldn't buy in 2010 that I can buy now -- new bookstore, better range of meds for pets (only thing available in 2011 for cats was rabies vaccine; now other vaccines).

It looks like a very effective strategy is to get the enemy's population to find a war or colonization a problem rather than a solution: Vietnam for the US, Afghanistan for both the Soviets and the US and its allies. Losing conscripts is more costly than losing people fighting invaders.

Mikie the cat has decided he needs to be allowed to inspect the patio before I leave for breakfast. He isn't trying to get through the door from the patio to the street. He's also sleeping in the bed at night, and sleeping on human schedule didn't take him much time so he's done that before.

New Cat, street rescue as little kitten by first owner, kept indoor by. Said to be 7 years old, not really convince or he is a small adult cat. Color is unusual, and he is a neutered male (haven't looked too closely) and very friendly but sleeps under the bed. Rubbed my hand the first day.

Mostly black tabby and white cat eating.

New cat black tabby with white belly and neck markings. Touches of red. If a male, this pattern is either not sex-linked or I'll find out more later.

Thinking today about a program I saw about Cuba and the interrogations of protesters after mass demonstrations a couple of years ago. Al Jazeera? DW? One of them. A gay Cuban who'd been running a website for gay people was brought in for questioning for participating in the demonstrations.
