Excited to be part of a small team delivering free workshops to help parents and babies get started with potty familiarity and reduce nappy waste/laundry. Our first event is next week, followed by an online version on 15th July. Please spread the word (especially in North London)!

Babies who use the potty sleep better, feed better, don't suffer with colic or happy rash, have improved communication skills, mobility skills and bladder and bowel health. Potty Learning shouldn't be a difficult transition during the tough toddler years, make it a gentle part of everyday life.

Babies begin learning about toileting from birth. A gentle, gradual process of mastering over 40 skills with independence achieved typically between 12-18 months. But then we invented disposable nappies which disrupted this natural learning process...

As a potty learning expert, I advocate for parents to be aware of the impact that disposable nappy use has on their child's physical and social development and their bladder and bowel health. If parents knew the true impact, baby pottying would once again be the norm in our culture.

Congratulations to @beckysauerbrunn.bsky.social! Many kids become distressed at the idea of "losing" their poop. A great way to prevent this is to introduce the potty from birth so it's always a familiar and accepted part of life and the transition to potty training/letting go of nappies is gentler.

The vast majority of potty training approaches are not child centred. Because parents have been led to believe that they must wait until their child is "ready" before teaching potty skills (a tactic which sells nappies) they delay their child's natural development www.rebeccamottram.com/podcast/

In answer to your question "what about nappies" (on the Bristol bin situation) did you know that babies can (and should) use the potty from birth? If we used nappies as a backup, we would use fewer and throw away fewer too! Better for the environment, saves parents a ton of cash... no bin no prob!

Humans are not designed to wee and poo lying down. The ideal position is squatting which allows the bladder and bowel to fully empty. Helping your baby get into the right position aids healthy bladder and bowel development and prevents common potty training problems developing later.

Why won't your child cooperate with #pottytraining? You won't believe the difference it makes to just tweak the way you speak. Using playful, positive language and giving information empowers your child to problem solve and cooperate without resistance or consent issues. (Full video on #Instagram)
