final two subscales. The first is three items covering the myth that men rape because they just really want to have sex or sometimes get carried away (🤮), the second subscale is three questions covering the idea that if both people aren't drunk it doesn't count, or a man can't be held accountable if he's drunk. This is followed by two screengrabs. In the first Adam Carolla says "that's just standard drunken blue collar dude behavior" and in the second Nick Fuentes says "sometimes people get drunk and want to have sex"

The next longest bar is the Wellcome Trust, labeled 1,279. The other 5 bars together are still 8 times shorter than the NIH bar. EU is at the bottom with the shortest bar.

This is how you empathize and stay compassionate when your toddler is melting down after a long day at the zoo or your reactive dog is freaking out. Or, more accurately, how someone might rationalize that its their own fault, really, they drove their abuser to that behavior.

forest plot of odds ratios for men and women. Y axis is the impact of parenthood on tenure at universities. X axis is 4 domains: baseline, whether partner has a phd, whether there is paternity leave, and whether a grandmother is around to help. Women are hosed across all 4 categories. Men are MORE likely to get tenure and women are LESS likely when: their partner doesn't have a phd, the dad doesn't have paternity leave, and there is a grandparent around to help.

Are you an early career scientist? Do you want to build your skillset to address intimate partner violence? Apply to REMAP! Mentorship from leading IPV/GBV researchers, training in measurement and ethics, a stellar global peer cohort. Childcare stipend for in-person training! go.ucsd.edu/46O1NRg
Red and yellow flyer. Blue "REMAP IPV" logo in the top left corner. White text reads:

Mentored cohort for early career researchers focused on intimate partner violence
Grow the evidence base. Build your network.
Apply by Sep 30, 2025

Why Remap? IPV leads to maternal death, yet we know little about how to address it.
What is Remap? Trainees will advance skills and lead a joint publication with a ‘writing pod’ of peers and a mentor.
What does training entail? In-person for
2 days (with travel and childcare stipend); monthly webinars; independent writing on secondary data over 6 months.
Who can apply? US-based researchers <5 years post-terminal degree. A background in IPV research or practice preferred.

A callout box says: 2 days in person, November 6-8, 2025, College Park, MD (After APHA)
and
6 months online, December - May 2026, online webinars and co-write a paper.

Apropos of nothing, have you ever gotten a toddler to eat their dinner by offering them pasta with cheesy sauce and tiny trees but definitely NOT that awful mac and cheese with broccoli that induced the current meltdown?
Investigators must employ specific and measurable concepts in health disparities research. For example, redlining and housing discrimination are clearly defined practices that can measurably impact the health of minority populations. The NIH will support scientifically rigorous research programs that explore such causes as one reason among many for poor health outcomes for Americans.

However, broad or subjective claims—such as attributing worse health outcomes in a particular population to poorly measured factors like systemic racism—should not be presented as established background facts without clearly defining measurable variables that are part of the research question.

Also, a reviewer tried to make me take this line out on the rationale that women's caregiving exhaustion from covid was not 'relevant' to the science. Which...absolutely not. So please enjoy my party trick of being able to explain why *everything* is actually about gender.
Because women do the bulk of unpaid care work, female caregivers are more likely to lose out on paid work when a sick child must stay home.9 In addition, young children cannot completely isolate and require a caregiver, which is likely why women have a higher risk of infection from a child index case,10 resulting in loss of paid work both to provide unpaid care and from their own subsequent illness.11 Missed work and burnout from COVID-19‒related care work has driven systematic professional setbacks for female caregivers across multiple fields. These are especially magnified for women of color, women with less formal education, and people who have a disability.
