That's a very impresssive figure, indeed. Will use it in several presentations and refer to your great work! After all this debate whether or not biodiversity declines can be detected in time series - the change in species composition is huge and has stronger implications than alpha diversity alone.

Ecologists should always think about experiments for their study systems, clean & replicated manipulations to separate mechanism from correlation! Any scale from petri dish to forest. The "Sythetic" Ecology metaphor may offer a good excuse to do it :) See my response in Matthias' blog (Nico)

Nature conservation e.g. by NGO Fundacion Jocotoco, can help to bend the curve of biodiversity decline. The graph shows how large parts of the diversity comes back due to natural regeneraion of a rainforest. It illustrates the main finding of our study published in Nature: Protection restores 90% of species diversity in 30 years.

It's even worse in this case! Rescuing honeybees by synthetic superfood (genetically designed yeast) to release them from the need of threatened wildflowers... this can further accelerate biodiversity loss. Synthetic ecology - for crops.
