NYR Super-fan

The defense being able to move the puck on all 3 pairs has made a world of difference. Getting out of their zone so much easier & leading to way more offense. Šmits was really good tonight. Petterson/Durzi are great. Tolvanen has been good pick up. #NYR
Another impressive #NYR. Beat a good Utah team. Did a way better job handing a fast team. Big third period to put game away. Not easy down a man early & on 4th game in 6 nights. Shesterkin continues his hot start both with his play & with his stick
Impressive stuff by #NYR. 3rd game in 4 nights to start. Clearly fatigued but had great start, survived middle part, & had clinical defensive effort to finish that game off. Gave them nothing. PK great again. Durzi continues to impress. So happy for Garand. What a moment for him
Gotta say it was nice to hear MSG like this again. After last season, the players & the fans needed this. Getting those early goals were crucial. Hopefully can find build something at home now going forward. #NYR
What a game before that. Night & day from last home opener. Big response after Tuesday. Huge to get goals early & build confidence from there. PK was incredible. Every line was pushing. Nice for Dorofeyev to get going early. Šmits was a beast. Feels like important early win. #NYR
A night I’ll never ever forget. I still keep checking to make sure I’m not dreaming. A Igor goal was long time coming. #NYR
For the love of god score a goal and win please. #NYR
Well thank goodness Garand was not claimed on waivers. This would have got dicey quick. Stinks Korpisalo is hurt, but nice to have this depth. Sure Garand will be thrown right in tomorrow too. Big chance for him to maybe hold the spot. #NYR
What a slap back to reality. Hard to make big judgements from 1 game after a shortened camp/preseason, but getting shutout on opening night again is one of worst things that could’ve happened. Good start is crucial. Now pressure going to MSG after the issues there last yr. #NYR
#NYR season opening thoughts: this team is going to surprise a lot of people. I get why those are down on them after last 2 yrs, but with improvements to depth, the defense & talent, they’re in a spot to be much better. Feels fresh with all new additions. Should be much more fun
Big relief for Garand to clear. Didn’t think he would but nice to avoid that & now have some solid goalie depth. He’s also signed for next year so hopefully he becomes full time back up by then. #NYR
With Šmits on board & playing way he showed, this is best #NYR D they’ve had 1-5 since 2014 if not better. Up there in the NHL too. Then you have Robertson/Morrow/Fortescue as depth behind. Gives them chance to trade from position of strength if need be
So would mean 8 D. Have Robertson as spare LD and Morrow as spare RD. Rempe/Chlemar battle it out each game for final forward spot. Stinks Morrow will be sitting a lot, but thats good depth to have in Fox or Durzi miss time. #NYR
Wow so looks like Morrow/Chmelar made it. Figured Chmelar would be sent down. Really hope it being last day & tons of guys on waivers that Garand sneaks through. Would hate to lost him for nothing. Still think he is more than a capable backup. #NYR
Delayed #NYR Preseason Game 4: Result you expected having a superior lineup, but still nice to see. Every line getting a goal & PP getting 2 goals on top. Hopefully a nice confidence boost for everyone going into the real deal. Enjoying the lines to start. Šmits solidified a spot
Delayed #NYR Preseason Game 3: Morrow looked great. Shame there isn’t really a spot. Hope they don’t lose him on waivers. There’s talent there. Šmits had a mistake on goal against but showed more good puck moving & taking space away. Del Gaizo is good depth. Cuylle/Laba look good
Always had thought Šmits would start in Hartford to get his feet wet & get big minutes, but he has made it impossible for #NYR to send him down. He’s different from most rookies in that he’s played pro hockey for 3 seasons including vs NHLers in the Olympics. He is more ready
Excited to finally have more fun depth in Hartford for first time in a while. Greentree and Beaudoin def showed a lot of good things in camp/preseason. Would expect they are maybe up with #NYR at some point this season, but surely full time next year.
Brutal for the kid. Finally got a nice run of games last yr. Likely wasn’t making the team, but would’ve been great depth to have in Hartford & would’ve been called up at some point for sure. #NYR
#NYR Preseason Game 2: Smits belongs. Really impressive game. Dorofeyev is so dangerous. Durzi adds such a much needed dimension to the team. Him & Petterson going to help a lot. Good for Beaudoin to get a goal. Made some nice plays defensively. Igor was Igor. Liked Bjorkstrand
Makes sense with shortened camp & not many spots available that #NYR would make some cuts sooner. No real surprise although Vaakanainen on waivers suggests either Smits makes it with Robertson as 7D. Or Morrow makes it with Robertson on 3rd pair. Unless they go 8 D
#NYR Preseason Game 1: Garand was great playing the NJ full team with an AHL team in front of him. Poor luck on the goals. Greentree had some nice moments. Fortescue had a great goal & a couple other good plays. Hope best for Sykora. Didn’t look good
Exactly how I expected the units to look. Nice to have more depth to allow for PP2 to be effective too. Really looking forward to watching that top unit play. Could easily be a top 5 PP. #NYR
Now looks like the white mask below may be Igor Shesterkin’s road one. Appears he’s been wearing this mask last 2 practice days that would go well with the home kits. Saw both masks in his locker during his media yesterday. Love both of these. #NYR
That’s how I would line it up to start if I were Sullivan. Can always adjust but kinda what I thought they may do to set lines to let them get acclimated quicker with shorter camp. #NYR
The main key for #NYR camp is to stay healthy to be able to start fresh unlike last yr. Sullivan has his work cut out for him with so few practices to get them ready quick bc a good start to season is crucial. Curious if he will set lines from start & leave it to gel fast
Should be an interesting camp this yr with it being so short & only 4 preseason games. Roster pretty much set. Really boils down to backup G, 4th line RW, 7th D, & 13F spots. Doubt any rookie makes it outside of Chmelar. Better for Smits, Greentree, etc to cook in Hartford. #NYR
#NYR Rookie Series Game 2 thoughts: Not a great showing. Shaiikov was impressive in net. Greentree was good again. Great goal & hit crossbar
#NYR Rookie Series Game 1 thoughts: Tung was excellent despite giving up 3. Greentree was good, holds onto pucks well, skated better than I thought. Šmits got better as game went on. Had 2 assists but had struggles. He moves so well for his ice, gets up & down ice with ease
Really looking forward to going to the Rookie Series this weekend in Allentown. Can’t wait to get firsthand looks at Smits, Beaudoin, Greentree, Aspinall & Lamb especially. We saw Laba & Perreault use these games last year as a springboard for main camp. #NYR
Love Igor Shesterkin’s new mask for this upcoming season. #NYR
Love it. No risk deal & potential high reward for #NYR. Tolvanen was linked to them 7/1, but nice to swing back around & get him cheap. Very physical and has shown he can score. Really deepens the depth in middle 6 & pushes guys down. Him/Cuylle flanking Laba is a good 3rd line
Pretty wild that with last season effectively ending in January, it will have been over 8 months since #NYR played a meaningful hockey game when they open the season on 9/29
Curious what they do with Morrow this year. He has to go through waivers if he doesn’t make team & likely gets claimed. Do they risk losing him for nothing or does he get Zac Jones treatment? Shame bc there’s talent there, but he’s blocked right now unless Schneider gone. #NYR
Great role for Quick to move into now that he is in retirement. Cant ask for a better mentor for the young goalies coming into the system going forward. #NYR
Was inevitable, but still exciting to see Smits officially signed. Excited to watch him at the Rookie Series & preseason. Going to be a stud. I like #NYR remade the D to have him in a spot where he doesnt have to rush. Can start in AHL like Perreault & get feet wet if needed
Having #NYR start off with 3 games in 4 nights with 2 on the road is pretty cruel by the NHL haha
A tad more than I expected, but glad they didn’t commit long term to Schneider. He had a bad yr & needs to bounce back. Allows them to reassess next summer. And still gives them control with him another yr & can flip him sometime during season or next offseason if need be. #NYR
Wow pretty big news. Have to think a new young guy taking over the reins from his dad will want to be more hands on day to day. James Dolan has been mostly hands off with #NYR especially since Drury has been at the helm. Curious how this will go. Hopefully will be a good ting
Encouraging to see #NYR learning from their mistakes. Adding Petterson was a big help to them not being in a spot where they felt the need to rush Smits. Let him get his feet wet in Hartford and he forces their hand like Perreault did, thats a great problem to have
This felt inevitable with the Durzi addition. Borgen was good in spurts, but overall left a lot to be desired & that contract wasnt the best. This a solid return to fill the pipeline after unloading other picks lately. #NYR
Look you dont wanna keep giving up 1sts, but they protected it to be safe & so much can change by then anyways. Petterson will help for a while since he is still signed longer term. Drury then still has Schneider/Borgen to play with now for more. Wow. #NYR
I totally thought Drury overplayed his hand with Trocheck at the deadline, but he def ended up better off. Durzi is now best RHD behind Fox and Beaudoin is their best C prospect who turns pro this year & has top 6 upside. #NYR
Drury did well here. Durzi is a damn good RHD that slots above Borgen/Schneider. Beaudoin is a much needed young center prospect with speed. Sad to see Trocheck go, but it had to happen. You needed to maximize his value right now. #NYR
Interesting. Petterson would be a good add for #NYR. Great defensive D. Played under Sullivan in PIT. The left side of D would be stacked with Gavrikov, him and Smits going forward. Not too shabby. Curious of the return.
Way more depth and more fun up front for #NYR as of now. Even if/when Trocheck is traded, you hope its for a middle 6 young guy, so he would go to the wing of Miller on that line. Solid work so far by Drury.
Good deal for #NYR. Bjorkstrand is a nice middle 6 option that can play up and down lineup. Good defensively & has shown he can score too. Perfect that is a 1 year until some of kids come up from Hartford.
Perfect signing for 4C for #NYR. Like Veleno. Good speed. Exactly type of guy to replace Carrick and only 1 year is great.
Didn’t think #NYR would go with someone as established as Korpisalo to compete with Garand. Gave away nothing to get him, so can’t hurt, but hope Garand gets the gig bc he has to go through waivers
