This review captures exactly what I wanted to do with this book! The story is, in fact, both "brazenly, joyfully silly" and "about what it means to live in community and how we can (and should) show up for each other," and Hamilton's recognition of that duality is immensely heartening for me. 💕

no, me either. also like, they have a looooooong runway to prepare for this question. it's not like ZOE KAZAN (I said Kravitz but it is Kazan, don't look at me) doesn't know she's going to be asked these things!

Peacock is a legitimately great purchase. it has a bunch of legacy shows on there and honestly they have some good originals as well. We Are Lady Parts is a perfect show.

yeah! Lord. like I am new to my industry, but I am KEENLY aware of the ways my social and financial privilege helped me get there, and I will say it to anyone! I think it's good to say! like, good for ME to say. I think it is good for me and my personal character to keep these things in mind.

and that's a career nobody is trying to break into! lol! except good-hearted trauma survivors who want to give back! like I cannot imagine how much MORE of a boost it gives you in FUCKING HOLLYWOOD.

like my sister works in child trauma, and our parents also worked in social service fields, and she will READILY admit that this gave her a huge heads up. like, not just in terms of our parents being able to connect her to people but in terms of knowing the norms and the vocabulary and the VIBE.

wild to read interviews with the children of famous people where they're angrily like "I wasn't rich! I worked hard for what I had! people talk about nepo babies but they don't even know!" and then two paragraphs later they're talking about the dinners they had with Cary Grant and shit. BE SERIOUS.

no, for sure, it's a good reminder. I just forgot because I was using my browser's search function which defaults to DuckDuckGo and then that wasn't giving me what I wanted so I switched it to Google and that is how I accidentally rage-baited myself into a coma

Reminded again tho that the BM is so terrible at promoting itself that it still doesn’t sell an Ea-Nasir tablet plushie or done an Ea-Nasir exhibition, both of which would make them one billion pounds a year

Olivia Dade's sequel to ZomRomCom finds an oracle who must (reluctantly) team up with a demon from her past to stop a zombie apocalypse. It's a premise equal parts emotional and silly, and @readingtheend.bsky.social recommends it for anyone searching for community in desperate times:

oh my fucking God I am trying to find the title of a Neko Case song I only vaguely remember. Jesus fucking Christ motherfucking goddammit. you fucking piece of shit. you useless fucking toaster. goddammit motherfuck.
I searched the lyrics "baby I'm afraid but it's not your fault home alone tonight," which are some of the lyrics to Neko Case's "Curse of the I-5 Corridtor." Google's AI Overview told me "It can be really unsettling to be home alone when you're already feeling anxious or afraid. Please know that your feelings are completely valid, and it is okay to feel this way," gave me a bunch of advice, and then said, "If you'd like, I can stay right here and chat with you. Would you like to distract your mind with a fun trivia game, talk about a favorite hobby, or just have me write a relaxing, peaceful story for you to read?"

I hate you. I hate it here. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.

it's fantastic. there's a section narrated by the spirited heiress's mean relative, Miss Clack, who is deeply religious and is always telling everyone what they should be doing.

Jenny with a Green Ribbon Around Her Neck @readingtheend.bsky.social · 21h
but then, the night of The Big Party, the diamond goes missing. gasp!! the heiress won't talk. she won't help with the search. nobody knows what's going on. her romantic life goes to shit. she flees to the city.

Jenny with a Green Ribbon Around Her Neck @readingtheend.bsky.social · 21h
The Moonstone also has multiple narrators plus it's unexpectedly (by which I mean, even slightly) critical of British colonial violence in India. It revolves around this cursed diamond that an English heiress gets for her birthday and she's like "ha! I don't believe in curses!" (she has Spirit.)

Jenny with a Green Ribbon Around Her Neck @readingtheend.bsky.social · 21h
I loooooove The Moonstone. and it's not that this is such a high compliment, but it's like, much less racist than you think it's going to be! hahahahha
140
Jenny with a Green Ribbon Around Her Neck @readingtheend.bsky.social · 21h
it has multiple narrators, including the Even Wickeder Italian, who spends most of his section explaining how hot Marion is and how much he wants her because of her sexy, alluring brain and her sexy alluring ass.

if you're unfamiliar, The Woman in White is a gothic novel about a drippy art tutor falling in love with a drippy girl whose wicked husband is being puppeteered by an Even Wickeder Italian, and all that stands in their way is the drippy lady's mega-smart sister, who has a fat ass everyone admires

hey can we get the internet back into Wilkie Collins? do some group reads of The Woman in White and the Moonstone? I think the internet would enjoy Marion Halcombe's quick wit and sweet, sweet ass.

These chicken cutlets are deeply golden, craggy, and surprisingly easy, thanks to an unusual omission: I skip the flour dredge. The result is even crispier cutlets that are simple enough for a weeknight — and a dinner staple. Scale it up for the best leftovers. smittenkitchen.com/2021/03/cris...

I really think about this with JKR, who hotly defended the casting of Johnny Depp several years before she came out as an anti-trans freak. her credibility as someone who cares about women's safety was already long gone.

So like I keep wanting to float the idea that there's a major unspoken current in American politics where like nine different things are coded versions of "people are angry that they can't control their kids/grandkids' thoughts and lives" but then here it seems to have broken out into being explicit

I like the family estrangement articles because they are always about spoiled, selfish adult children cutting off their parents for no reason, and they are never about the fact that 40% of homeless youth are queer, like I wonder how that happened hmmmmmmmm
