Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 6hActually, you are right. In this case they introduced legislation and it is the manufacturer, not the owner They also allow for strict liability claims on the insurer who can then deal with reclaiming from the manufacturer. Either way I don't think this is an issue 010
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 12/10/2026That's not what they posted though. They posted a rebuttal to the specific claim going round. 000
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 10/10/2026A verge also exists with a specific meaning - that's unpaved land alongside the carriageway or footway. I wouldn't say the photo shows a non elevated pavement. There is clearly a kerb and the cars are at a distinct angle. Perhaps you guys tend to build yours with a bigger step up? 120
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 10/10/2026It'll be the angle of the sun given the time of year. It doesn't get as high in the sky so it hits at a more oblique angle spreading light over a wider area. It also passes through more atmosphere which will attenuate it a bit 000
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 10/10/2026No, since this is a photo in the UK, they mean pavement as a colloquial term for footway which is the space intended for pedestrians at the side of the carriageway - the bit for vehicles. The road consists of both of the above together and form the right of way. 150
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 08/10/2026That's a coincidence, because 9 out of 10 claims about this topic are made up on the spot too 😜 080
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Yeah but that's Wales and *obviously* it can't possibly apply elsewhere. 000

Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 25/09/2026That it takes longer to boil warm water than cold water. Am with you, although unsure if you changed your position or not mid way! 010
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 25/09/2026There is no way I believe this. Q=m.c.∆T m and c are constant. Therefore Q proportional to ∆T Besides which, the logical flaw is that the colder water could only at best catch up at which point transfer rate would be the same 100
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026If he's going off road then I've definitely fallen off early days because the rear wheel spun out on a steep hill and all momentum stalled. 011
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 22/09/2026That's pretty much it plus don't start uphill until confident clipping in. Seen people stop to look down and fiddle with their foot and forget to maintain momentum Otherwise, on road you just need to unclip as you slow and before you stop. Barring an emergency stop there is always time to prepare 110

Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 19/09/2026A minute ago, I was aware but was being pedantic. A lack of consistency on your part makes it difficult for people to converse with you. Be aware of that. 110
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Drivers regularly jump amber lights (which also mean stop) or pass through in the few seconds immediately after the change. 5mins at a moderately busy junction and you'll see this. This doesn't register in the same way as a cyclist going through in the middle of a sequence which stands out more. 030
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Also the wailing and gnashing of teeth from Wandsworth residents. Yes it probably should have been phased in over a couple of years but their council tax is going from pretty much the lowest to average. The story isn't the tax doubling, it's that they were paying 50% for decades. 020
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I never said *I* wasn't aware. You need to be because of the morons who pretend anything they didn't pay attention to came from nowhere. 100
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 17/09/2026"nowhere" doesn't exist. The cyclist is always somewhere. If it's somewhere you aren't paying attention to, that's on you. 120

Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Also as a counter point, I once parked one of these sensibly at the road side outside my house only to see a driver of a range rover pull up and chuck it haphazardly on the pavement so they could park more easily. Not saying that's always the case but it does happen. 0302

Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 05/09/2026They're self cleaning. When they start a pass, they move under a static wiper bar 030
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Because the smaller ones move and the big ones don't. The smaller ones stay at the end of the main row and when they start their pass they pass under a wiper bar. You can see that at the very start of the clip. 020

Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Quite possibly the gov website is poorly written though. At any rate, we do need to standardise on definitions to stop this confusion arising and clearly distinguish EAPCs with something more succinct 000
Ralph de Kanter @rdekanter.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Hesitate somewhat, given the last time I raised this I got a rude response and blocked, but... I used to say this too but more recently wonder whether there is lots of loose definition going on. The wording of the gov website suggests scope for a non EAPC ebike bsky.app/profile/rdek... 100
