Abdul El-Sayed Isn’t Backing Down on Medicare for All
Some commentators are claiming that Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed once supported Medicare for All and now merely backs a “public option.” Matt Bruenig explains why this is not true.

It comes down to lots of scare stories spread by the insurance industry and lots of money spent to buy politicians in both parties. Despite the scare stories a majority now support Medicare for All.

Ron Chusid @rchusid.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
During the Michigan Senate debate Mike Rogers claimed that Medicare for All would lead to a $20,000 increase in income taxes. Under Sanders' model people making $529,000 per year would pay this much. Most people would pay less in new taxes than they are now paying for premiums & out of pocket costs.
