FWIW I like audio only format. Sorry you have to deal with this. Even after listening to your show, which is about "guys sucking," I don't know why some people are just plain nasty. Anyway, I'm a fan. Keep doing your thing. Also, this helped me remember I had expired oat milk. So...thanks?

Thank you for mentioning buchannan! I was looking at the Reform Party platform from 2000 (which djt initially ran before dropping out and picked up by pat bucchanan)...it's almost exactly Trump's platform since he came down the escalator.

FWIW, as a 17 yo boy in the Philly burbs i saw a bit of both. I most remember the vigils. Most of the talk was centered on mourning the dead, and the heroism of the responders. But, anger and vengeance against "them" was absolutely part of the conversation, too.

I've been trying to pause and reflect today to understand the meaning of that day and have had a lot of difficulty putting it into words. T hank you for the excellent column. Gives some much needed perspective.

The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth...and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and... gives way to passions and coarse pleasures.” -Brothers karamazov

Iran had similar tech. The most well known were underground aquaducts called qanats, which functioned very well in the desert climate. Unfortunately, they haven't been properly maintained and, along with other issues (misuse/waste/fraud, growing pop) has led to persistent water shortage.

Still digesting the piece you wrote on the debt. I'm curious what you think of the below calculator, though? Folks might argue about the estimated costs/savings presented, but I feel like we need to see what our ideal reforms would actually yield. www.crfb.org/debtfixer

Agreed. I think that lies at the emotional heart of the backlash. It's not just dislike of tech oligarchs, though. The reasons people give (environmental concerns, costs, privacy, economic impact of losing jobs to AI, and the feeling we all have of "information overload") are all real, however.

I've watched Sen. Whitehouse's Scheme speeches multiple times. I hope that, if we ever take back power in this country, he will help guide reforms in the judicial system and around dark money.

Lightning bugs! We used to have so many flying around in summertime. We'd go around the neighborhood at twilight to catch them while our parents would chill with each other. Now, while living next to a field, we see very few. Even that much is enough to make our daughter happy.

My dad grew up in iran in the 40's when the country was modernizing. He remembered a time when there was no recorded anything and people just sang to each other or told stories on their stoops, in breaks, wherever. He really hated background music in stores. It was so foreign to him.

I have an old East German rowing training manual. The beginning chapters talk about youth development and basically boil down to: "kids should do as much free play as possible when young, then try as many sports as possible between 10-13. Only start specializing as early teens."

Much of the corn that consumes water is used to make ethanol blend gasoline (something we're probably using more of now). So, it's not even for consumption and is something we could significantly reduce if we used less fuel. Regardless, data centers are still a waste of a precious resouce.

Thank you. One of my favorite TV shows is Deadwood. It's about what makes a community and that it takes all sorts of people with our myriad of flaws who need to work together. In the show, the big bad is a powerful oligarch. This scene is one of my favorites. youtu.be/xF8aIa3QOkU

Something that puts "skin in the game" immediately after declaring, especially those who might profit. Some sort of tax, or increasing public ownership of key industries and the like. Just spitballing, but make it costly is my point.

Governor, I do not know a single person who supports having these data centers. They are nightmares for the environment, costly, and everyone thinks they will lead to lost jobs and a surveillance state. You need to take a much harder line on these data centers or you will lose a lot of good will.

It bothers me to no end that "conflict of interest" has become defined as "proven bias" rather than what the plain language means. That there is a conflict. That doesn't mean one is definitely biased, just that a reasonable person would see competing interests...

Either Cinnabon or early Boston (chicken) market/Kenny rogers meals. Chicken, corn bread, mash, mac, creamed spinach. Big nostalgia factor with both. The chicken was our "mom's night off" meal. Cinnabon was my mom's "special treat" that we'd split whenever we went to the mall. I ate most of it.
