Easiest place I found to see it was to load up Avatar Testing Chamber in VRChat (standalone or PCVR) vrchat.com/home/launch?..., go behind the wall on the left side of the mirror to a dark area (see images), and check the gray on the floor. In my headset, one eye can see it easily, the other can't.

high bit depth for headroom in mixing and production and the like makes sense, but for distribution and listening, well-constructed tests show no audible difference between CDQ (16bit PCM/44.1kHz) and SACD/DVD-A (1-bit DSD at 2822.4kHz, 64x oversampled vs. CDQ): www.aes.org/e-lib/browse...
Fig. 1. Block diagram of test setup for double-blind comparison of high-resolution stereo playback with same two-channel analog signal
looped through a 16/44.1 A/D/A chain. (Drawing by Roy Allison.)excerpt: 2 THE RESULTS
The test results for the detectability of the 16/44.1 loop
on SACD/DVD-A playback were the same as chance:
49.82%. There were 554 trials and 276 correct answers.
The sole exceptions were for the condition of no signal
and high system gain, when the difference in noise floors
of the two technologies, old and new, was readily audible.Claims both published and anecdotal are regularly made for audibly superior sound quality
for two-channel audio encoded with longer word lengths and/or at higher sampling rates than
the 16-bit/44.1-kHz CD standard. The authors report on a series of double-blind tests com-
paring the analog output of high-resolution players playing high-resolution recordings with
the same signal passed through a 16-bit/44.1-kHz “bottleneck.” The tests were conducted for
over a year using different systems and a variety of subjects. The systems included expensive
professional monitors and one high-end system with electrostatic loudspeakers and expensive
components and cables. The subjects included professional recording engineers, students in
a university recording program, and dedicated audiophiles. The test results show that the
CD-quality A/D/A loop was undetectable at normal-to-loud listening levels, by any of the
subjects, on any of the playback systems. The noise of the CD-quality loop was audible only
at very elevated levels.

caveats that come to mind: - VR HMDs are usually higher res than the editor viewing screen (but apps are often rendered at lower res!) - This doesn't show mipmap levels directly as far as I can tell, instead gives a hueristic of sorts (see attachment) as usual it's easy to get lost in the details!
Unity documentation screenshot:
Mipmaps Show ideal texture sizes using a color code:

Red indicates that the texture is larger than necessary (at the current distance and resolution)
Blue indicates that the texture might be larger. The ideal texture sizes depend on the resolution at which your application will run and how close the Camera can get to particular surfaces.

Not sure, but (with caveats) the Unity Mipmap debug inspector view gives some indication. Video won't upload so image it is (1k/2k L/R) Blue > texture could display more res at selected distance+res, red > texture is using a lower mip at selected distance. 2k is mostly wasted outside close distance

Raz @razgriz.one · 21/04/2026
to add: Don't push your camera way in when adjusting res! Try to imagine and view at the distance that you+others will actually be at in VR - often can go down a step in size with little perceived difference (due to mipmaps, etc) Image: color/normal tex @ 1k vs 2k (left/right) zoomed in/at distance
example of texture resolution at 1k vs 2k for a pair of shoes: zoomed in, and at a reasonable viewing distance

Especially for QPro, consider a 6" low-profile right angle USB-C extension cable. Hot glue/putty onto HMD to take up strain - it's not to USB spec, but power draw isn't high here. Velcro tie or ziptie the back end at rear of HMD and connect cable there. Relieves strain and extends HMD life

Got to spend an extended week in a super cool city with great friends. Not often one gets to hop between a half-dozen killer performances per night on pristine AV setups for five nights in a row - even rarer that it all felt in tune w/ my taste 🖤 Feeling inspired, happy, well-fed, and very tired 🥀

Note on my exp w/ Akiyama
Akiyama spoke and behaved in ways I couldn't understand when I worked with him in 2022. The way he spoke about my dancing, and how he seemed to look beyond the actual performance to make me something bigger, now seems much more dubious. It's pretty clear people like me existed (to him) as a building block for his grand personal project.

After my injury left me unable to dance, he effectively stopped interacting with me, as I was no longer useful to his ambitions - a tool, not a friend. Even when we met IRL in a very casual setting, he couldn't turn the "clout brain" off.

I'm glad I fell off his radar, but he continued to hurt a lot of good people in much more direct ways - he's earned this ire, he's lost every right to share this space, and people deserve to know these things about him.

If you're annoyed by print littering, there is a toggle in the settings to hide prints locally (and filter prints from Everyone or just Friends). Not a fix for event-runners, but may help your own experience be a bit cleaner until the novelty wears off (or we get world options to disable Prints)
