Early 2363. The Galaxy Class prototype, USS Galaxy, the newly commissioned USS Yamato and the not yet commissioned PCU Enterprise fly together for the first and as it turns out, only time as a trio. Of the three, only Galaxy would serve out a full career.

The station is home to a number of religious facilities, including a Catholic Church personally blessed by Pope Stephen XII, a Shinto Temple, a Bajoran Temple blessed by Kai Pralo, an Islamic Mosque, a Jewish Synagogue, a Hindu Temple, a Klingon monastery, and Vulcan Temple, among others.

By 2384, the station would finally be made ready to be moved to its new home: the Chin'toka system. A fleet of 2 Parliament and 4 California Class starships would tow the station at low warp from the Trivas system to its new home over AR-558 in the Chin'toka system.

O'Brien, who had visited the station once before- found that while station was in rough condition- squatters had briefly occupied the station- it's structural integrity was sound and all of its systems were repairable.

With the approval and assistance of the newly democratic Cardassian government, Empok Nor would be surveyed by both Starfleet and Cardassian engineers, with Master Chief Petty Officer Miles O'Brien heading up the project.

Empok Nor is nearly identical in most respects to its Sister. It was felt that using Empok Nor would be a fitting tribute to the heroism of the Crew of DS9 and of the USS Defiant.

Eventually, Brigadier Kira Nerys, the commanding officer of Deep Space 9 would suggest the use of Empok Nor Station, the only remaining Nor-Class station still in existence. Empok Nor having been abandoned by the Cardassian Government in 2370.

This plan would be scuttled following intense backlash and negative reaction from the Bajoran Government and residents of the station, including Starfleet officers, to the removal or retirement of the Station. DS9 remains in service to this day.

So with that settled, now the question went to precisely what type of facility should hold the memorial. The first suggestion would be the use of Deep Space 9 itself as the museum, as plans were then underway to replace the aging mining station with a brand new state of the art Starfleet facility.

Of course that was the easy part. True to form, none of the powers could agree on precisely what type of memorial it should be. A Planetside facility was ruled out because of the requirements of the museum ships, leaving only a spaceborn facility.

Shortly after the official end of the Dominion War, it was agreed that the last act of the Alpha Quadrant Alliance would be to commission a Memorial/Museum dedicated to the Dominion War.

In the end 1,356 officers and crew would give their lives in defense of the 700,000 people of New Massachusetts. A large monument on New Massachusetts was constructed and dedicated to the honor of the "Scrap Iron Flotilla" and it's valiant defense of their world.

The 135th would engage in a costly and valiant defense of the New Massachusetts colony in order to buy time for help to arrive. Of the 10 ships that made up the 135th only 2 would survive to be relived by a allied force led by the USS Nanjing, which drove off the remaining Dominion ships.

The 135th would proceed to New Massachusetts at maximum warp to defend the colony, finding itself both outnumbered and outgunned, nevertheless would engage the Dominion forces despite the odds.

The Dominion had been engaging in long range "terror raids" against small fringe colonies far from the front lines. These raids essentially meant to sow fear and destruction for the sake of undermining morale and confidence in Starfleet's ability to protect the citizens of the Federation.

New Massachusetts was a small colony of about 500,000, strategically and materially irrelevant, it's defenses were outdated and minor- 23rd century era facilities from when the colony was first founded.

On Stardate 51948.3, the 135th would be en route to Gemenon following it's 14th successful convoy escort mission, the squadron would receive a distress call from the New Massachusetts Colony, who detected a fleet of 15 Dominion ships approaching.

Receiving the disparaging nickname "Scrap Iron Flotilla" from its fleet mates, the crew of the 135th would identify with their ancestors on Earth facing their own totalitarian adversaries and took to wearing the "Scrap Iron Flotilla" name as a badge of honor.

The 135th would generally be crewed by a mix of "drafted" service members from local Planetary Defense forces, etirees and inexperienced and fast-tracked 3rd and 4th year cadets from the Academy.

All the ships none of which were younger than 70 years old and a few that were older than 100- would be subject to a 3 month reconditioning process to restore the ships to active service and automation to reduce crew requirements.

One of the formations that rose from this scheme would be the 135th Defense Squadron. The 10 ships that made up the 135th were mostly sourced from the Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility over Lenexa.

During the darkest days of the Dominion War, Starfleet was increasingly overstretched. A scheme was drawn up to bolster it's numbers by recommissioning obsolete ships from throughout the Federation and set them to rearguard and patrol duties to free up more modern ships for frontline service.
