They introduced it with Avowed, which was meant to signal them starting to do more Code in a Box releases where they'd need to distinguish between them more clearly, but got bullied out of it later in the year with Ninja Gaiden 4, so now they just have a Game Disc banner on every single box

The switch 1 version automatically upgrades to be equivalent to the switch 2 version, (60fps, higher res) - but not the switch 2 version so save files aren't compatible the caveat is that it somehow ends up taking up slightly more space to download than the key, despite peace walker being on cart
