#Finland showed once again its true colours by failing to consult #SamiParliament and appointing several MPs well known for opposing #SámiRights to a parliamentary committee to review the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action. Did they forget the new #consultation requirement? #TRC

Don’t quite get this; #Norway is pledging money for securing #Indigenous #landrights, while they’re doing the opposite in their own backyard #Sápmi. See the NYT article and Forest Tenure Funders Group link: www.tenurepledge.org/cop-30-pledge www.nytimes.com/2025/11/14/c...

📣 Out on #FirstView 📣 @raunaku.bsky.social in her piece, “It Doesn’t Rise to the Level of Crisis That Other Situations Would”, examines the relationship between gendered violence and Alaska Native self-determination. gendersky polisky buff.ly/EHVjYZu
Research article "“It Doesn’t Rise to the Level of Crisis That Other Situations Would”: Indigenous Self-Determination and Gendered Violence in Alaska" by
Rauna Kuokkanen.
Abstract begins: "Is gender violence considered a part of advancing Indigenous self-determination in Alaska? What are the key jurisdictional, institutional, infrastructural, and community level challenges in combating violence against Alaska Native women? Few studies have considered the relationship between gender violence and Alaska Native sovereignty. I address this gap by employing the theory of relational Indigenous self-determination and drawing on research interviews with Indigenous women in Alaska and analyzing the data in light of two recent legislative changes: the 2022 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, and the legislation that formally recognizes Alaska Native tribes in the state of Alaska."

This is what we were watching today in our house to mark the International Women’s Day. #Indigenous women lead the way in so many beautiful, necessary and fearless ways. The struggle continues. #IWD www.endofthelinefilm.com

It’s International Women’s Day. Women have always spoken truth to power. We cannot be silenced now. Having read this I’ve got one question: how’s the US different from Russia? It only took a few short weeks to get to this point. Where do we go from here? www.nytimes.com/2025/03/06/u...

My 2021 book chapter on #Greenland self-determination & independence is timely again. "One of the main reasons for expanding Greenland’s autonomy in 2009 was the desire for greater political and economic autonomy and paving the way for possible independence in the future." rauna.net/wp-content/u...

Thanks #Amnesty for your report! A great foundation for #SápmiDem, our new research on Sámi participation. "The Sámi have limited participation in the energy transition's large land use projects and their right to prior consent under international law is not upheld."👇 www.amnesty.fi/uploads/2025...
