They act the same as domesticated chickens, even down to the angry noises a broody hen makes. This species was domesticated for thousands of years, yet the behavior remains largely the same.

I got to witness undomesticated chickens (red jungle fowl) at a bird sanctuary recently. #chickenposting

Undomesticated rooster. Looks identical to a normal rooster, with a bright red comb, golden orange feathers on its neck and back, and a long black tail feather.

The hen looks very different to the typical domesticated hens used in industry. She's very thin and resembles a game fowl in statue. Her feathers are brown and have lacy patterns to help her blend in. She still has a red comb, but the bottom part beneath her beak is greatly reduced unlike the rooster.

Chick update: the babies are half the size of the mother hen and will be reaching pullet stage soon. I suspect two are roosters due to their large wattles, so those may need to be sold. No crowing behavior yet though. #chickenposting

I can't say it's the whole reason these birds are endangered, but people hit animals with their cars constantly here. They put signs up in cassowary areas, but people speed regardless. It's frustrating.

The coop has been sectioned off to provide space for mummy hen and her babies, but they escape constantly. The chicks can apparently fly higher than a metre. #chickenposting
