I got to write an Orpheus & Eurydice inspired piece for @ratiorinezine.bsky.social last year, now available on ao3! Please check out leftover sales beginning Sept 15! 🔗 archiveofourown.org/works/70655981

Fic preview for Veritas et Fortuna: A Ratiorine Zine. Title: reach across the styx. Writer: euphemea.

Summary:

“The walk out of hell is not easy, but there is more than one means to arrive at the end. I’m sure Aventurine’s esteemed professor friend already knows this.” Acheron exhales and turns on her heel. “That’s all. Good luck.”

Veritas watches silently as she leaves. Her meaning is clear, and eerily pointed regarding his own inner turmoil.

It would be far better for Aventurine to find his own way back to the living.

But Veritas is only a man. Never is that clearer than each time he comes face to face with Aventurine dangling himself over the brink. If his damned gambler cannot pull himself free from the abyss, then it falls to Veritas to make the journey there and back again for him.

Fic preview for Veritas et Fortuna: A Ratiorine Zine. Title: reach across the styx. Writer: euphemea.

“Sensations, emotions—these are things that remain, even once memory fades. Even should the worst occur, and the people keeping them vanish. There are many who do not recognize what could be lost at the edges of a black hole until it has already vanished.
“IX’s shadow is long, and there are those I cannot carry back across the river. I can only lead them away from their desires unto their final rest. To reach the land of the living, it is those who are alive that must lend a hand.
“The walk out of hell is not easy, but there is more than one means to arrive at the end. I’m sure Aventurine’s esteemed professor friend already knows this.” Acheron exhales and turns on her heel. “That’s all. Good luck.”
