It's because of journalists who are terrified of being accused of being "biased" by Republicans and who already feel defensive because they are widely seen as being "liberal." And because too many journalists sanewash Trump in a way they would not do with any other president. We have a weird media.

I despise Trump, but this is stupid. Have you ever seen what the hands of 80-year-old people look like? Of all the things to be concerned about Trump, this is the dumbest.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
You love to see it. The only way out of this madness is for people who support Trump to pay an awful price for it. Otherwise, this madness never ends.

These people are lunatics, but I have more respect for them than the 40% of Americans who couldn't be bothered to vote in the most important election in generations. "Voter suppresssion" isn't nearly as big a problem as voter apathy, and people who don't vote should be seen as idiotic losers.

A reminder that 77 million morons voted for this moron, and every day he makes their lives worse is a good day in America. Too bad the rest of us have to suffer as well.

One of the most important things I learned during these Trump years is (a) how much hate there is in America, and (b) how Donald Trump doesn't create hateful people (they were already there) as much as he gives them a permission structure. Millions of our fellow Americans are not good people.

Psychologist who has administered many IQ tests here, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that the vast majority of people who claim to know their "IQ" have no idea what they are talking about.

And yet he could still win, which shows you just how insane Texas voters are.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
What a shock to see this moron is running in a rural district (which he could of course win) rather than in an urban district (which he would have no chance to win) in Minnesota. The problem in this country isn't red states, it's rural districts in every state. Stupidity reigns.

One of the things the Trump effect is doing is having people in blue states start to seriously wonder about the morality and basic understanding of government of their fellow Americans living in red states, who are responsible for all this. Without them, Trump or Hegseth are not in power.
010
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Yes, and millions upon millions of far-right "Christians" would be absolutely OK with this and praise Hegseth for doing it. It's not normal because millions of Americans are not normal.
000
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Of course, *none* of this happens without voters who, out of willful ignorance or straight-up racism, continue to elect far-right candidates. The Republican party isn't nearly as big a problem as Republican voters.
081
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
What a disgrace. Show me a Republican today, and I'll show you a loser. God I hate these people.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
A reminder that the people of Missouri *elected* this loser, which should tell you a lot about people who live in Missouri.

As with many stories by the media, the headline here is framed so that it posits two different points of view and gives no indication which side is more likely right or wrong, as if what "critics say" is merely expressing an opinion when, in fact, it reflects reality.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Yes, but it's too bad we couldn't kill the ACA just for people who voted for Trump, since he always said he wanted to kill it. For people like that, I would have no problem with them losing their insurance. They voted for it!
000
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Based on Trump getting elected as president - twice - thinking that the public is incredibly stupid is a pretty sound conclusion.

Your regular reminder that the majority of White women voters (most of claim to support free choice and easy access to mifepristone) voted for Trump rather than Harris, which is the only thing that makes Baldwin's nomination possible.
071
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
A good question is: what happens if Trump decides to ignore a court order? What will be done about it? Anything at all? Most people follow norms and the rule of law by simply complying with court orders, but what if Trump doesn't? Is there a mechanism in place to force him to follow court orders?

An awful story about awful people (the Hansens). And I hope the TU presses charges against Robert Hansen, who is quoted as threatening the life of one of its reporters. Hansen should be in jail.

A reminder that more white women voted for Donald Trump than for Kamala Harris in 2024, which doesn't help. They helped make this happen. Vote better.

Words that accurately apply not only to Trump but his supporters as well.

The Latinos who elected her are as well. Maybe they'll make a better choice next time.

The legacy media were such chumps when they have defended FOX "News," because it's never a two-way street. You can bet if FOX was banned by a Democratic president the legacy media would be standing up for FOX, but it never works the other way around. And it never will.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
An unreported story is that millions of people in red states are perfectly fine with this, because they know the only "threats" that will be looked at in this administration are ones coming out of blue states or blue areas within red states (in other words, not real threats at all).

"The State of New York" means the *taxpayers* in the state of NY (like me, like you) will have to pay for this. We have to pay for these moron correctional officers, who should be imprisoned for a very long time.

This is such and amazing piece and so spot-on in every way. I wish every American would read it, reflect upon it, and act upon it. It would change America for the better.

It doesn't help that more white women voted for a convicted sex offender than voted for Kamala Harris, proving yet again that one does not have to be a man to be a misogynist.
010
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Bullshit. This is blaming politicians for electing Republicans, when that happened because more people in Texas actually voted for politicians. Stop pretending the people of Texas aren't responsible for electing the people they voted for and making them out to be victims. They're not.
000
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Ted Cruz also thinks Trump has an "instinctual genius" for essentially calling Ted's wife ugly and rather than cut him off Cruz continues to defend him. And Texas keep electing this loser.

Which is why no one should be shedding a tear for any trucker or farmer who voted for Trump and is now suffering economically for it. They got what they voted for.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Also the term "working class" implies low wages, when often that is not the case. Hair stylists and plumbers, for example, are considered "working class" but often make considerably more than people who have degrees in higher education (and are therefore not considered "working class").
010
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
And the fact that both of them may *still win* tells you that in places like Michigan and Texas there are millions of voters who care more about stupid culture wars than actually making their lives better.
000
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
It also makes the people in Minnesota look like rubes - what kind of an idiot would consider getting food at a gas station "dinner"?

Yes, I know - I work in a university. Well aware of the issue, thanks.

Whatever. My point was that people can make lots of money in academia - just not the main people who work in it (faculty and staff). And you are proving my point.

This should be the lead story on CNN and everywhere else but with few exceptions it will largely get ignored and not even reported on in the nightly news broadcasts. The media's obsession with a false sense of "balance" and their terror of being called "bias" amounts to sanewashing.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Can't wait to hear Scott Jennings try to spin this and CNN anchors once again having to pretend he is engaging in serious commentary.

Trump is a disaster, but if he somehow turned the economy around, most voters would want him to stay and would not care what he did with the EPA, sad to say. "The economy" is now not the biggest issue in American politics, it is also essentially the only one that matters to most people (sadly).

The figures are for SUNY-Albany, an R1 school. Don't know what the coaches make or what NCCA division the university is in and don't care. But the numbers I posted are accurate.

"Perhaps most" adjuncts don't have health insurance? "Perhaps"? Let me clue you in: the *vast majority* of adjuncts do not have health insurance now and never will. And colleges and universities will continue to pay low wages and no health benefits as long as people remain willing to be adjuncts.
110
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
It depends on where you work. My president makes over 600K, the provost makes 400K, and our Dean gets paid 300K. Faculty and staff don't make anywhere close to this, unless the faculty member is a former administrator (one professior in my department makes about 300K and was a former provost).
130
RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
This 1000 times. Adjuncts are just that; they are not full-time employees. Tom's post about this is spot-on. And it's not going to change. There are simply too many Ph.D. programs graduating too many Ph.D. students who want to go into academia, and they jobs simply aren't there.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
The only way to make real money in academia is to become a Dean, or Provost, or President. Not only do they make a lot more money, they also get to keep a big chunk of it if they ever return as a faculty member. Of course, they also have to work a lot more and have very inflexible schedules...

He's a piece of shit running in a red state. Which means he will most likely get elected, because that's what they do.

Trump could use the same defense when he's asked about the Epstein files (e.g., blame the media for bringing up irrelevant culture-war questions).

They'd stop asking if he answered it, which for whatever reason he is not willing to do. It makes no sense.

RB @ratherreadabook.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
OK, but it would be *so easy* to say he deplores what Piker has said, and as long as he doesn't do that he will continue to be asked this question. He's not answering the question-he's ducking it. And he could make it go away in an instant by answering it, but he refuses to do that.

I'd love to see Kansas elect a Democrat, but I'll believe it when I see it.
