A U.S. Postal Service official has alleged that the agency is moving forward with a "secretive, rushed" effort to implement President Trump's order exerting federal control over mail voting, despite a court order blocking those plans.

The official filed a whistle-blower report, published on Tuesday morning by the office of Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, asserting that the "risky and haphazard" implementation of Mr. Trump's order could lead to a "catastrophic failure" in the mail ballot system ahead of this year's midterm elections. The report said that the agency had planned to complete the new digital system overseeing mail ballots by Sept. 1.

"Potentially millions of American voters may not receive their mail-in ballot this election cycle in a timely manner, or at all," the official said in the report, which was prepared with the assistance of Whistleblower Aid, a nonprofit group that represents people seeking to expose potential lawbreaking.

Speaking to reporters by phone on Monday, Mr. Blumenthal said of the report that "the main takeaway for me is that the Postal Service has designed a system to disenfranchise millions of Americans. One-third of all Americans cast their ballots by mail, and the U.S.P.S. puts all of their votes at risk."

USDA Confirms First Case of New World Screwworm in a Dog in Lea County, New Mexico, Fourth Case in Texas

The New Mexico case was previously reported in Andrews County, Texas

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 8, 2026 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is sharing additional details about the epidemiological investigation into the case that was reported earlier today in Andrews County, Texas. While the veterinarian who reported the case is located in Texas, the dog resides at a household in Lea County, New Mexico. Therefore, the location of the case will be reclassified to be the first case detected in New Mexico.

This is believed to be an isolated case; however, because the dog's recent travel and exposure history remain unknown, USDA and state partners have initiated inspection of additional animals in the dog's home and increased outreach in the area while continuing to investigate the animal's movement history.

"This situation is evolving, and we expect new information to emerge as our investigation continues. USDA is committed to sharing what we learn quickly, accurately, and transparently so animal owners and local communities have the information they need to stay vigilant," said Dudley Hoskins, Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs. "We are working closely with our partners in New Mexico, Texas, and across the region to ensure we identify, contain, and respond to any potential cases as swiftly as possible."

New World screwworm (NWS) poses a serious threat to livestock, pets, wildlife, and in rare cases, people. The larvae feed on living tissue and can cause severe wounds, animal suffering, and significant economic harm if not detected and treated quickly.

In addition to the reclassified case in New Mexico, USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratories confirmed a case in a goat in Gillespie County, Texas.

They THINK they're building an arena, but the plans were altered by Aliens before the crew got them, and they're actually building a Stargate. It's not for an invasion, though; the rest of the galaxy thought we needed an intervention instead.

The very odd-looking UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fight arena being built on the boarded-over front lawn of the White House. So far it has two large metal arches that cross in the center top. This is great, and also oddly reassuring. Still, I'd prefer to live in boring times and read SF about more interesting times.

This was the start of the recorded music industry. It was a culturally shocking invention rather like AI in some ways. When music was recorded, interactions that had always been human were dehumanized.

Artificial words appeared. Artificial voices. Artificial speech. There had never been any. The first commercial uses for recordings were efforts to get dolls to talk. Artificial children, talking aloud. Also, dead people could talk. You could see them buried, and yet still hear the voices of the dead. It was like the modern shock of talking to an AI chatbot - it can hear speech and speak, it can read and write. It's an artificial intelligence. A wax recording is an artificial voice.

So to conclude my speech here, somehow, this too shall pass. AI is a fad, but not merely a fad. You can't merely wait for it to blow over, and imagine that things will be as they were. A lot of it will blow over, but also a lot of things will be blown flat by it. Important matters, customs, infrastructures, cherished ways of life, gone with the wind and never replaced.

Sometimes, you have to sing the blues. When the levee breaks, mama, you've got to move. To sing the blues, that activity doesn't repair or rebuild the levee. But it's not nothing. Because it's the blues.
