Doctor Who began in 1983 with William Shatner in the title role and Angela Merkel as his companion ‘Dirty Lil’. In 1989 he regenerated into Demis Roussos who has played the role ever since.

The evacuees and Sophie Aldred’s sultry acting aside this is pretty much flawless. Fantastically directed, atmospheric and profound with some top notch casting. Anne Reid! Parsons! A pissed Alfred Lynch! It doesn’t get much better than this. Think I’m edging towards a not guilty here lads.

Incredibly it took 18 seasons for the show to do a proper vampire story but it was worth the wait. The production team throw every cliche in the book at it to great effect with a fun script from Sir Terrance

Church is a standard RTD introduce the companion vehicle. Millie makes a great impression but as a story overall it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. At least the song gave us the tragic site of Benjamin Cook mansplaining how the music charts work to a professional singer
