Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Show and tell This year I was given the chance to make the 1st place prices for @norwegianopen_wcs, and @idabeach very kindly invited me up during the awards to talk a little bit about the tankards. #smed #blacksmith #WestCostSwing #Norway 010
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Putting it together Here you have it, all put together. Looking at it now, it seems very simple, but I blame the fact that it's very difficult to make it look simple. Or something like that. There's one more surprise left here though. Stay tuned for that shortly. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 000
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Bending on the diamond A part of the design I wanted to emphasize with this project, was doing things on the diagonal, but that turned bending the handle shape into a challenge nearly impossible by hand. Turns out, the fly press can prove it's worth yet again. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 000
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Working on something special This has been a project long time in the making. From idea to the current version I think we're talking about 18 months, and there's still a few things I'd like to tweak, but for now, it's done. More to come. #blacksmithtease #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 000
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Finishing up something cool With fire, because its the only right way to work with wood. More info to come. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 000
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Cold cutting 16 mm steel The more I use it, the more I have come to love my Peddinghaus ironworker. This clip is just about real time, and I'd say that two minutes, including waiting for the machine to spin up, is not a bad time to cut 9 pieces of 16 mm round. What do you think? #smed #blacksmith 012
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Stubborn restoration work It took quite a few rounds of bashing and straightening to get the hinge bolt out of this bending jig. I could have used a harder piece as a punch, but that would abuse the hinge bolt a lot more, and I'd rather avoid that. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 010
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 15/09/2026New small anvil acquisition! #smed #blacksmith #anvil #Oslo #Norway 021

Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 09/09/2026New anvil acquisition! I think I have almost one of each size of this model now. Most likely a Stavanger Elektrostaal anvil. #smed #blacksmith #anvil #Oslo #Norway 021
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I realised a little while back that I have never made these ball details on the middle of a rod before. So when a new job comes along that deserves a little extra. Making some custom guillotine dies was a part of the experience, and are available for sale. #smed #blacksmith #giljotin #guillotine 000

Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Forging balls A client wanted 50 mm ball ends for some curtain rods, so that's what I made. A nice exercise in control and eyeballing. Not a good idea mind you, to do it without a jig, just good exercise. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 020
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Curling up some curtain rings This is such a simple tool, but it makes the job so much easier. From here, I simply cut down the middle and flatten them out. Also, what would you call this type of jig, a ring winder? Let me know what you think. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 031
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Bundles of forgings. Recently a friend of mine said something in passing that fundamentally changed how I think about forging quickly, this is one of the videos resulting from that. #smed #blacksmith # 010

Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Twisting steel So often good tools saves you a lot of work. This isn't big or complicated, it just helps me keep the bar centred while twisting, but it saves so much time in straightening afterwards. #smed #blacksmith #twisting 032
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Tiny, but mighty We got a few of these small, but surprisingly powerful 5 kg Madni power hammers coming to Norway soon. Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Good tools are half the job Quickly twisting some 12 mm square bar cold. Having an even heat when twisting is very important for getting an even twist, and room temperature is pretty even, at least in my forge. #smed #blacksmith #twisting #Oslo #Norway 000
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 29/06/2026The highlight of last weekend was to see the old water powered trip hammer in use, and feel the sound of it. If you have the chance this summer, make the journey to Nes Jernverk. Dates for the hammer demo online at jernverksmuseet.no #smed #blacksmith #medieval #powerhammer #Norway 051

Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 17/06/2026This might seem like the slow and impractical way, 8 minutes to make one bend, but slow can be very fast when you don't have to go over and correct mistakes. I could have used the forge, done all the bends at the same time, but that adds uncertainty. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 130
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 10/06/2026Ironworker at work I recently got my hands on a Peddinghaus 210 Ironworker, and this is something I've been wanting for a good while. I was so eager to try it out, I didn't even take it off the pallet and stick the legs on. #smed #blacksmith #peddinghaus #ironworker #Oslo #Norway 020
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 07/06/2026The tiny hammer I recently got this Madni 5 kg power hammer in, before sending it out to its new customer, I had to play around with it a little bit, and despite the steel getting a bit cold on the way, I'm very impressed with this little machine. #smed #blacksmith #powerhammer #Oslo #Norway 040
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 06/06/2026Quick bit of sheet work It doesn't take much, but spending five minutes with the right tools, and suddenly this forge hood is 90% of brand new. I'm not going to pretend it's perfect, but we don't need perfect, we just need done. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 020
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 03/06/2026New tool magic Nothing beats the feeling of using a new tool for the first time, and realising how much time it'll save you. #smed #blacksmith #Oslo #Norway 010
Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 30/05/2026Market season All set up and ready for customers. Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 27/05/2026Bringing this beauty back to service This is the largest Norwegian made double horn anvil I've been able to get my hands on. It's quite the beauty, with the marks of use, but overall it's in nice condition, ready for many more years underneath the hammer. #smed #blacksmith #anvil #Oslo #Norway 030

Rasmus Loen Steensgaard @rasmusloen.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Botanical blacksmithing Finished up this bouquet the other day.
