The question I posed earlier, to me anyway, was how does an audience deal with having to sit with a character that starts somewhere they don't like but *actually* have to be with for awhile in order to see that growth. Will people just openly reject it without giving him that chance? 🧵

As the game progressed, I did start to notice a change. He was growing, and learning how to heal. How to understand who he actually was, and what he wanted to be. There are *very* clear moments in the story where you can see him change. His character then does actually change from that point. 🧵

Everyone else looks at them and sees a monster. I think, at least early on, he feels everyone else sees him the exact same way. Just a monster. Maybe it's just because this felt like something I went through. I felt like I identified this right away in his character, so it made sense to me. 🧵

... as a punishment he deserves. His identity is a monster that deserves to be punished with danger and pain until it kills him. Like someone self loathing, he looks at the resonants he has to kill as victims. People who, while dangerous, deserve compassion. Something he never gives to himself. 🧵

I suppose everyone could look at this differently, but from my experience with alcoholism, this fear of "what if I'm just like this? What if it happens again?" His character, to me anyway, is consumed by this at the beginning. What he's doing, why he's doing it, and how he is treated... 🧵

...which is what do you do if you try and show growth throughout the experience? One of the characters even poses the thought "people don't change" as an axiom. Dylan even agrees with it at that point. The character starts somewhere that is rooted in self loathing and anxiety. 🧵

I remember hearing some initial reactions while I was away before I could play talking about Dylan and that he wasn't a great character. That just didn't sound right to me, so I tried to avoid everything I could about the game further until I could play it. What Remedy did does pose a question...🧵

The potential liabilities for this are so big, I don't even know if asking for your bank to divest from this stuff is going to matter. If so much other debt is built upon this foundation, does it matter if your money is in a separate pillar of a house with a foundation about to fall out of it?

I don't know that's what is happening. When I look at other major scams from the tech sector and meme stocks though, this feels like another version of that but now actually big enough that it is hitting historic numbers in relation to GDP. None of this feels good. 🧵

I think the major LLM labs trying to go public is also them trying to let the initial investors into this crap cashout. They've built up hype with the help of the tech/market press to get regular investors excited to buy the stock when it goes public, which they can then sell. That's conjecture. 🧵

That other team, I do hope they still got a clear in, but that loss was Sumoomoo’s gain for season 1. It is a hard game. It doesn’t feel good to lose, but when you do win, it does also feel pretty great. It didn’t surprise me to learn that friction doesn’t have mass market appeal. 🧵

Some people have an easier time with that than others. Story time. Helping a friend ( @sumoomoo.bsky.social ) work through to Compiler in Season 1. To get there you have to complete 6 objectives on the Cryo map before you can attempt the fight. The Vault 6 access card is *very* rare. 🧵

… but those still seem to be doing better. This is a highly polished, very smooth experience for a game of this type. It has some really interesting map objectives, especially when you get to Cryo. It is still a demanding game that can quite often lead to an evening of failure. 🧵
