RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 11hSmall intervention: it wasn't too smart to directly make an OS for what i can only describe a crime against ISA design rules. I will try first to do some burner OS for my larger less funky 16-bit ISA before going back to Picomage 010

RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Finally some good news: Picomage (here in variant 1.3) works! It still assumes perfectly fast memory but it holds as a golden model to test software. I additionally fixed my toolchain so i can try to finally get my OS running on it. 020
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 02/09/2026All chill here, have to fix my toolchain since version control doesn't exist in my software world 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Aight, back on the logisim Picomage implementation. Got the first some instructions running but its timing is funky. Should be able to finish it this week and call it the golden model for Picomage 1.2/1.3 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Some easy going here, exams roll out soon 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Had to sidetrack a lil since i was encouraged by a guy to look a bit into CDC 6600. This is the WIP front end of the new SuperSatellit CPU. Another attempt at super scalarity but this time less magic and smaller steps. 2 front end pipelines so i should end up with round about an IPC of 1.3 020
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 06/07/2026Okay, finally back with some fresh ideas and motivation! Time to get back at the logisim Picomage 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 03/07/2026Okay, my brain is overloaded. Time for a short vacation. Cya all in 3 days! 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Debugging and simulating is just killing me rn... progress is basically zero. Gonna think on how to proceed 000

RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 31/05/2026Time for some next level software debugging: rebuilding Picomage in Logisim Evo so that i can see what is in memory and what flies around. Disadvantage: i need to build that CPU first 020
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 29/05/2026Quick info: Picomage is finished, wrote that one down in just a few hours but i am now sitting at the OS. I already managed to get a suprisingly complex peemptive scheduler within 256 byte of memory but now i need to get some drivers in like for graphics. And i only have 2 KiByte of RAM for it all 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 22/05/2026Have to do a quick intervention and focus on Picomage. Ya already know of Picowizard, the very tiny 8-bit RISC ISA and CPU i made. This is basically the larger brother, coming with ring modes, virtual addressing, interrupts and a timer. So everything needed for an OS but in a still tiny 8-bit CPU! 000

RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 18/05/2026i am still alive! But i am sunk in university stuff again. Please hold the line 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Landed in development hell. The depth buffer streaming mechanism is more funky than i thought, argh... would be nice if something works from the very start on 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 27/04/2026The GPU memory unit finally works. Now i just need the depth buffer and i should be able to draw points again 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 18/04/2026Progress is slow, got sidetracked again with a RISC-V emulator for my large 32-bit ISA. But i at least fixed a lot of bugs in my toolchain! 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Okay, got some more functions which should help. E.g. my tool chain can now do arbitrary interleaving and create multiple files for multiple memory banks. Nothing too fancy but makes life easier. Aighty, onward to the GPU madness again 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 10/04/2026Aight, my toolchain finally works again. It is far less wonky now but i need to rewrite some portions of it later. Aaaaaanyway, gonna now expand it now with more functions like makro insertion and shit to make my life easier before i further tinker on the GPU 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Got more issues in my GPU mainly with the memory addressing units for the loaded and stored data stream. Aaaaaand on top of it my toolchain broke down. The fix isn't too bad but i'll take the time to rewrite the bad parts of it in one go. What a day to start the week... 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 04/04/2026Okay, i messed up... my GPUs state machine is broken. The point rasterizer works now and is 4 times as fast as in the old GPU but i can't show it rn. Debug and cookie time 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 04/04/2026Okay, the great call for today: i will tomorrow get the better GPU to raster points 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 28/03/2026Aight, back on track and currently looking into Wus line drawing algorithm! 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 27/03/2026Slowly getting my stuff running all again. Should be able to soon do GPU stuff again! 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 22/03/2026Okay, some updates: my PC broke... all data is safe but my laptop mobo is done. Got one of these very small office PCs which funnily enough has a higher CPU performance than my brick 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 16/03/2026Ah yes, time for funny compiler stuff. I think i got something which could be used as an IR language. But now to the actual funny question: how does instruction selection work? Time to read into the papers and also look a lil on LLVM and GCC 001
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 14/03/2026Okay, finally managed to optimize my universal assembler and added some more necessary functionality. Programming SuperSatellit, Cuboid and basically any ISA imaginable should now be very easy going. Still a lot of construction sides but next shall come a simple linker and basic compiler functions 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Currently more focussing on my own developed toolchain. Soon i will build further on Cuboid, please hold the line 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Cuboids line rasterizer is running! It can raster a list of single lines or a list of linked lines. So here the crystal from yesterday with different scale/rotation matrices but with lines. Next thing will be triangle rasterization 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 09/03/2026Finally something to show! Here the output of my GPU running a shader which transforms a hexagon crystal in different ways. Fully programmable, runs independent of the CPU and is suprisingly fast (1 vertex transformation per 4 clock cycles). Next stop: expanding the rasterizer and texturing! 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 28/02/2026Another side quest done, got my NISC ISA into logisim as its most basic (BI32) instruction set. Currently testing a lot. Hmmm... lets see what my brain is going to do next 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 21/02/2026Okay, i am finally done with the core parts of the NISCy hybrid ISA. I am satisfied with the result as it is quite elegant. Now i have the urge of putting it in SysVerilog and compare it with an equal optimized RISC-V. But eh, next goes back to the GPU, then the compiler 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 11/02/2026Switched tasks again, redesigned my entire NISC hybrid arch. The old lacked immediate formats and the compressed set was just garbage. What i have now is finally usable 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 02/02/2026Currently a lil busy on my end so no new updates on my GPU. But it could be possible that my Picowizard CPU finally gets a real use case 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 23/01/2026Got something of a simple rasterizer. I basically just do a limit test and then horizontally raster one line each. Bresenham for the win. Now to the testing and finishing the stream mechanism... 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 15/01/2026Some updates! I worked further on the GPU, fixed some timing issues with the transformer unit and nearly finished the memory unit responsible for parallel loading and storing a data stream via its two low bit interleaved RAM blocks (Logisim Evo doesn't have simple dual port RAM...) 110
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 06/01/2026Okay, slowly getting behind rasterization. But still will take a while. I guess i will move the UV calculation to the future 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 05/01/2026I think i am a lil oversaturated with circuit tinkering rn. Gonna take a lil break but will be back very soon 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Current status: binge watching videos about rasterization techniques 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 27/12/2025Slow progress, still studying the OpenGL thing but i guess i take the simple route out here and go with my gut feeling. It is my first 3D GPU so it is all experimental and nothing to shame when not working that well 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 24/12/2025Progression is very slow rn. Still need to think about how to build the rasterizer. I guess it is time making a deep dive into OpenGL 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 21/12/2025okay, minor correct, now the vertex unit runs. And i think i found a solution for primitive assembly and some parts of rasterization... i hope i can soon render my first dot on the screen 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 20/12/2025Okay, vertex pipeline in my GPU done. It is literally the most stupid approach but it should hold for all vertex shader operations. Onward to primitive assembly! I have zero idea how to do that... 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 18/12/2025I found a solution that also solves my rotation problem! I use 16 arch registers as a 4 x 4 transformation matrix which i send to each execution pipeline for different purposes. As a transformation/vertex unit i'll just build a simple tensor core using that matrix on the vertics stream 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 17/12/2025Update on my GPU: i am redesigning the GPU from ground up. The streaming CISC idea was good, the organization not 010
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 11/12/2025I think i found a solution for the rotation matrix conundrum. Next i'll try to build the rasterizer as quick as possible to at least get some point drawing action ready 000
RascalFoxfire aka. the funky CPU fox @rascalfoxfire.bsky.social · 09/12/2025Brain puzzle time: how to pipeline an execution unit responsible for rotating a vertex? Well, for a single axis rotation we need sin, cos and -sin, with a little magic just two lookups. Quite a funny one but i should get it running within this week 000
