holy cow, this comment on Thee LinkedIn Post has opened my eyes. This algorithmic, federated model isn't just a cute, if slightly convoluted idealistic tech thing; it's fully a method and intention to sidestep accountability.

It is not surprising that Jack Dorsey's hand-picked CEO, Jay Graber, is running Bluesky the app this way, since Jack's goals in developing Bluesky as a protocol for Twitter to operate on, were for corporations like Twitter to avoid moderation costs & any responsibility to advertisers or society to ban accounts for engaging in hate speech & neo-Nazi radicalization or incitement of violence. He has made many statements like this, including that banning Donald Trump's Twitter account for incitement of violence & TOS violations during the 2021 coup was "the wrong decision for the internet and society."

Instead, the new overall model for Twitter they are developing at Bluesky will put the burden on victims of racism, bigotry, & online harassment to push a "hide hate speech" button.

This 'algorithmic blindness" model, of course, encourages racists, because they face no larger consequence for engaging in hate speech & stochastic terrorism, while also being allowed to radicalize the rest

So, while I support people attempting to hold Jack & his Bluesky crew responsible for the racism that their platform & protocol allows & encourages, I will note that people are proceed from false assumptions, since the purpose of their project is to allow Twitter & other platforms to, as much as possible, avoid responsibility for monetizing hate speech, rage farming, right-wing radicalization online, and its off-line consequences.

I will also note that despite Dorsey's repeated promises that Bluesky would be developed with "uncomfortable" levels of transparency, Bluesky has operated largely in the dark and its PBLLP has still not shown its incorporation documents claiming what specific "public benefit" they are providing, and perhaps most importantly, is still going to great lengths to keep its ownership secret.

They have refused to provide any records showing who owns Bluesky, who owns the relevant IP, and what contractual relationships exist with other social media corporations

Oh man, where in Portugal! Porto food you can hardly go wrong. If there's still festivals get some street food, the chouriço is a different sausage than you expect and it's amazing. The grilled sardines are great too (and I'm not a sardine gal). Here's a pic of Sintra.
