4-1 with Boulder Bogles in #mtgpauper. Deck had perfect mana, boulder let me keep more hands, and it was a super fast league. I played less than 5 minutes each match. Format feels very linear right now, not sure I love it, but not sure there are any specific problems. Just ignore people and slam.

After playing the Zeta #mtgpauper format for a week, my gut is telling me dispatch and giant's boulder are problem cards. I oddly don't find strix to be an issue, as there are a lot of matchups where the card is really bad.I think snacker might need to still go, but yeah, weird format.

4-1 in #mtgpauper with 5 color boulder walls. Convinced that we are secretly in the modern horizons 4 of pauper right now. Giant's Boulder is way too close to astrolabe. I was able to cast strix off a forest and colorless land. Colors do not matter in the format currently. Deck was super fun!

5th place in the challenge! Flicker tron is a great deck in #mtgpauper. Deck performed super well! Every match was close, all loses were 1-2. I think flicker tron is still an extremely under-represented deck in this format for how good it is. Happy to show it off and get top 8.

I'm on the fence about it. There are a lot of ways to interact with it and it has summoning sickenss. However, it is a really solid plan B that can win out of nowhere. Having little deckbuilding costs means you can have a solid plan A with the potential to t3 kill. It adds stress to the format.

After playing more #mtgpauper with Hawkeye's bow, I am not loving the format it has created currently. I feel like it has narrowed the viability of archetypes in the format in a negative way. Leagues are mono burn + bow combo. I also feel like snacker needs to be banned as well.

Quick write up on my initial thoughts. I have also posted some decklists on my page that I tried through leagues. I got average results.

I have a brief analogy I'd like to make.

So far I have found that seeker + bow acts like Splinter Twin in a lot of decks. While this might sound like a powerful thing, I would argue it is actually the opposite. Historically, Splinter Twin was good because of several different factors. During Splinter Twin's height, modern had much weaker interaction like lightning bolt + path to exile. These either ramped the opponent or could not kill cards like exarch. Additionally, the card pool was weaker than it was today. Attacking with a Pestermite or having exarch act as a 4 toughness body to block was not embarrassing. In other words, cards like Pestermite and Deceiver Exarch could hold their own while also being potential combo pieces. The duality of these cards is what made the twin deck good. It was the fact that your cards could be attackers in the air, or blockers on the ground while also threatening to combo kill at any point. This eventually lead to a banning in 2016.

Fast forward to December 2024 and Splinter Twin got unbanned. Since then we have seen that twin is not a viable deck. What changed? For starters, Pestermite and exarch are nowhere near as viable as they used to be. The format has gotten more powerful threats and much better interaction. Because of this, Pestermite and Deceiver Exarch are no longer viable cards on their own. They are slow, clunky, and not impactful in the modern era. When looking at Splinter Twin, we also realize it is a 4 mana spell that is only viable when used as a combo piece. Why would I play two mediocre cards that are only good when combined, when I can instead play modern horizon cards where every individual card does four different things and can win the game by itself. Synergy leads to inconsistency and weakness if the cards are not viable individually.

I bring up this analogy because in my games so far, seeker + bow has not been good enough to be my main strategy. On their own both halves are quite weak with bow being the …

4-1, 3-2, and 4-1 with the new seeker combo in #mtgpauper. It feels okay, but not busted. People were prepared for it, and I found it to be okay, but not broodscale levels. Still needs time to be tinkered with. Overall I feel like it adds more of a plan B to decks, rather than acting as a plan A.

I got a 5-0 Trophy with Rainbow fams in #mtgpauper. I beat BW Midrange with familiar + glint hawk, UW Fams, Madness Burn, U Terror, and Pizza Combo. Deck was super fun. I loved how it could combo out of nowhere. Made some changes for the meta. appy to get to play one of my favorite decks.

I went 5-0 in #mtgpauper with Flicker tron! Trying out 1 map for consistency, moved the mana rocks around a bit as well. I also cut breath weapon from the list as I found it did not help me enough game 1 in the matchups it is for, and also I cut it in a lot of matchups. I like this list so far.

In this screenshot, I am being attacked on turn 5 by myr enforcer, myr enforcer, and utrom monitor for 11 damage. I am at 20 life and my opponent has 2 cards in hand. I cast unfathomable truths and they respond by casting pyroblast on it. This will not work as it has devoid which means it is not a blue spell and is instead a colorless spell. Truths ends up resolving, drawing 3 cards and making a spawn. During blocks I block a myr enforcer with the spawn token. Before damage, I tap urza's tower for 3 colorless, bonder's ornament for 1 blue, and sac the spawn for 1 colorless to cast a second copy of Unfathomable truths to draw 3 more cards. In total I drew 6 cards on my opponent's turn and soaked up 4 damage. I ended up winning the match because of this.

I got a trophy on magic online. This is done by going 5-0 in a league, which means you played 5 matches against random opponents and won all 5 matches. In this league I faced Madness Burn, Madness Burn, Naya Gates, Affinity, and Jeskai control. A 5-0 results in 11 treasure chests, 1 trophy, 5 Qualifier points, and 150 play points.

The first is that Ardent costs 1 mana less. Being able to hardcast it on turn 4 without tron is quite relevant in faster matchups. It dodges pyroblast against burn / affinity / jund, and it also can attack. I am aware it is weaker to lava dart, but I don't mind them darting my guy and not my face.

4-1 with Bonders in #mtgpauper. Bonders has felt great in favorable matchups, and horrible in fast / bad matchups. It's a nice card to have, but currently I have found myself using it's ability infrequently as I have to spend mana on other things. Good unban overall, Lists will be in flux.

back to back 4-1's with Flicker Tron in #mtgpauper. My philosophy is that we need to play to the board which Ent does well. Also, cards like mulldrifter + mnemonic wall get hosed by pyroblast which is everywhere, so instead play ardent + unfathomable. Deck dodged hate and raced.

5-0 in #mtgPreModern with UW fams. I cut the counterspell + swords package, and just went with mana leak + 8 familiars. It made the deck feel much faster, which I think is what the format is moving torwards. Beat Burn, Goblins, UW control, Bant winter orb tempo?, and goblins.

Trophy with Natural Order elves in #mtgPreModern. I really like my take on the archetype. Natural order felt insane, and I am not sure why people do not play it in elves in this format. Kamahl + hermit is very close to craterhoof. Overall the deck just felt super powerful.

some 4-1's with UW fams in #mtgPreModern. I added 1 land and 1 familiar and shaved on impulses. I think this helps give us more t4 kills as we have more access to familiars, and 1 more land has meant that mulligans are less painful. Still a lot of room to explore in UW familiars I feel.

5-0 Trophy with UW Familiars in #mtgPremodern! I beat Enchantress, Mono U Stiflenaught, BW Control, Iggy Pop, and Artifact prison combo with sphere / tangle wire / winter orb. This shell felt pretty resiliant / grindy. I like it overall. Still need to tinker with it more, but it feels okay.

4-1 with UW Familiars in #mtgPremodern. Updated the sideboard for the meta now that parallax tide is banned. Burn is quite popular in the leagues and sb chills payed off. I like the 1 of meditate as a card draw tool when you have to combo or you will die. Unsure if I want a disenchant in the sb.

A ton of UB decks. Cards like force of will, force of negation, thoughtseize, one ring, and stock up were the best non restricted cards in my experience. Other adjacent cards like duress / comandeer / iok also worked as substitutes. Being able to stop stuff and force your stuff through was huge.

I played it a lot and enjoyed it! My change would be to modify the ratios. You could only get 1 restricted card in your deck, but the non restricted cards you could get at most 2. I wonder if certain cards should be allowed to be >2 to allow for different deck building. Namely bazaar / non UB stuff.

Been Jamming even more SUPREME vintage cube. Format is very fun, but things like forces / thoughtseizes / rings / stock up / power / restricted cards drive you in a direction. 3rd for trophy leader. 1881 Limited Ranking, almost getting 1900+ ELO there. Super fun format, glad we get it once a year.

Multiple Trophies in SUPREME vintage cube. I love this format so much. It is the black tar heroin of vintage cube. I have gotten three trophies so far, this was by far the craziest trophy deck. I trophied with UB reanimator, and two mono U tinker shells. Love this format.
