I'm sure many of us have memories of a much older relative saying "There weren't that many gays in MY day", as if queerness spontaneously erupted from the public c. 1995, and wasn't something forced into hiding because of widespread acceptable bigotry and state-sanctioned hate. Yeah, that.

Like, I literally just met a man in a parking lot today to pay cash for 2 used DVDs I’ve been wanting (he once owned a beloved video rental in my city and is scattering his collection among, well, collectors). Believe me when I say folks are serious about physical media.

Oh dear, not you too. Yes, the older people in my life are seeking these programs out, and meanwhile I’ve had to help my mother “fall-proof” her apartment (not that it can be totally avoided). The screw in her floor that sent her to the ER last month was my 1st priority. 😡 Take care of yourself.

I’m still nodding about this post, given that I blithely inject French into some of my English works. It’s frustrating that, say, Tagalog or Arabic words are “weird barriers” when the same unilingual Anglo readers seemingly have no issue with all the French phrases in Christie’s Poirot books.

Yup. I feel the world/different readers need both, as both kinds of narratives serve different but equally necessary purposes. I’m tired of folks condemning one or the other. I personally write queerness with the homophobia in the world that I know, but I get the importance of escapism too.
