26 former federal employees recall how DOGE cuts felt from the inside, as they stood up and walked out the door. All of them gave up paychecks. Some of them gave up pensions. Count Me Out: The Best Federal Resignations of 2025 comes out next month! #ResignationBook
a color illustration. four portraits drawn in a comic-book style appear in a row. the portraits are labeled FTC, Energy, NIH, and State. orange text on a blue background reads “200,000 feds left their jobs last year. For our new book, we asked them why.” the hashtag “#ResignationBook” occupies the lower left corner. the logo for Bicycle Comics occupies the lower right corner.

Thanks! That's how it looks to me, too. That is far beyond what is normal for a mainstream newspaper photo accompanying a current-events story, at least in the US. Duplicating the main subject? Wild.

Photography people: Does anybody know if this shot was made in-camera? I could do it no problem with a mask in Photoshop or Affinity Photo, but was this on the sensor itself? #photography #ICM
a color outdoor photograph. the left half of the image shows a man fueling a white sedan at a Valero gas station. behind the man is a typical auto service garage with signage for "struts, brakes, tune-up" and "quick brake service." the right half of the photograph is a streaky blur of color, as if the camera moved during the exposure.

Also, the Sigma 28–105 UCiii is a /very/ nice upgrade to the kit lens. Seven straight aperture blades give your point light sources lovely starburst spikes! The "UCiii" part matters; I also have a "UC" model for Pentax and it is…not good.

There are literally 100s of stock photos of the Supreme Court building available on Getty for license. Three guesses how many of them feature prominent upside-down flags? We can't rule out that the Supreme Court is under nautical distress, however. How far away is the USCG headquarters?

Artie Moffa @ransackedroom.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
Yes, they are taking it down…and replacing it with a Getty stock photo showing an *upside-down American flag* flying in front of the Supreme Court building. I vaguely recall a news cycle story about Alito and flags. This is a turducken of Alito trolling from NPR's back-end team.
a color screenshot. an NPR news story headline reads: "Editor's note: NPR retracts story" showing a photograph of the American flag flying in front of the US Supreme Court building at dawn or dusk. He has not announced his retirement and we have…"

The 12mm F2 is probably smaller than your portrait lens, or the same size. My comparably wide Pentax APS-C 15mm F4 Limited, itself a tiny marvel, is larger, heavier, and a full two stops slower.

Artie Moffa @ransackedroom.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
Okay…should readers infer anything to the *upside-down American flag* flying in front of the Supreme Court in the retraction story? I mean, full points for trolling, but it does seem a bit snarky given Alito's views on upside-down flags?

NPR retracts its "Alito is retiring" story and illustrates that retraction with a photograph of an upside-down American flag flying out front of Justice Alito's house. (…checks notes…) An upside-down American flag flying out front of Justice Alito's /workplace/. Whoops! My bad.
