Homeless outreach and assistance does not include rolling around town and asking Women to get in your car. In the years that I've done outreach, I have never asked anyone to get in my car. Ever. EVER. EV.ER.

Then add in the intersection of disability. Ask yourselves how many physicians with disabilities are on your care teams. Notice there are very few of us? Med students with disabilities also are at risk of attrition due to problems with access and the financial cost of care.

The high risk of failure isn't because we can't hack it, we obviously can. It's because we lack financial support which causes increased stress and encroaches on our study time as we spend crucial time trying to secure funding to make sure we can eat and we don't end up homeless.

Med school is hard all on its own, but there's a financial and socioeconomic reality to medical school. The majority of students come from socioeconomic backgrounds which are well off. Those of us at the bottom rarely get in and when we do, we have a high risk of failure

Med school funding is quite literally barely bare bones, even when you're taking out the maximum loans. This is in combination with not being allowed to work and the additional expenses that the average med student doesn't even have to think about. gofund.me/4d8321937

I'm enjoying having to have an accommodation conversation with my institution which basically is like "let us try to negotiate ways in which we can put you at risk for no reason." Mask wearing shouldn't need accommodations, but at the very least it should be accommodations which make sense.

"What does it go towards?" Around 80% of med students occupy the upper 2 rungs of the economic ladder. I occupy the very bottom of that ladder and it's a space where there's a high level of attrition. For the few of us down here, it's very high risk.
