“We did sight some large animals that turned out to be livestock,” Beeman said
“Is this a…” meme. Is this a lion? Instead of a butterfly it is a cow.

The little details in the quilt were so nice!
A close up of part of the quilt, showing some of the flowers/circles and the background. The quilting (stitching that sews together the top piece, batting, and backing of the quilt) on the background forms shapes of stars, an astronaut, and flying saucers

One of the best things I saw at the Kentucky State Fair. I had to take the picture quickly, people kept wanting to come in for a closer look
A large colorful quilt hanging on a display frame. Most of the quilt is an explosion of intricately-pieced circular flowers overlapping each other, with red and blue birds flying to and landing on them. The top right most circle is a sun. The background is a gray green color. There’s a tag on the right side-the artist is Sarah Cawthon, the quilt won 2nd in its division

Doing TNR Damn possum won’t go away Do they make good pets? Jk. I dont want a possum. They dont make good pets.

Found out this weekend plecos can jump out of tanks. One of the kids let us know they can dry out and then revive upon re-wetting, after up to 30hrs out of water. Our fish was not Jesus. It did not resurrect on Easter. No sacrilegious events in our house. This week.

One of Musk’s buds runs IVF clinics?!? Feels like foreshadowing. We gonna get a spate of ppl in 10-20 yrs finding out their kids were actually made using Musk’s sperm without their knowledge or consent?
From WSJ article “The Tactics Elon Musk Uses to Manage His “Legion” of Babies-and Their Mothers”. Martin Varavsky, a friend of Musk’s who founded a large chain of in vitro fertilization clinics in the U.S., said he has spoken with Musk about the risks of falling birthrates. “Without babies there’s no future…”

My little dude is channeling Peter Capaldi with those brows. Same, little lizard, same.
A leopard gecko, a small spotted lizard, in a glass terrarium lined with paper towels. He stands in front of some”rocks”. His forelimbs are almost straight. His brow ridge is extra peaky, giving him an angry look

FathomVerse, a game where you drift through currents and identify pictures of oceanic creatures to help train an AI, has become my moment of zen
A compilation of the pictures I’ve favorited in FathomVerse. Lots of adorable octopi, including one moving through a “garden” of PVC pipes. A crab sitting in an anemone. A reddish squat lobster. Etc

Part city is going out of business and dog costumes are 75% off. On a related note, here’s a glamour shot of our cat wearing a sombrero
A white cat with a gray streak above his left eye wears a sombrero with gold accents and a colorful serape. Does his face show a zen-like calm, or a resignation to his lot in life? The answer is “yes”

Yessssss
Pasted on a utility box is a 6-eyed Garfield standing in 3/4 profile, a can of spray paint in one hand and a ham with bites out of it raised above his head in the other. A black bandana covers his mouth

I hope this piece is gonna be a series; they put up a Garfield with 4 eyes holding a ham down the road from this more than a year ago

Finished putting together a model from Ugears, a mechanical model co out of Ukraine whose products are 100% wooden. It’s a hurdy gurdy, an old musical instrument. It plays but the dominant sound is “wood squeaking” :). Still got it to play ode to joy recognizably tho!
Body of the hurdy gurdy. A pale pine box with multiple wooden gears staged inside. Embellishments on the sides and interior have been painted bright colorsThe near-complete body of the model. Top and bottom have been added and painted. A wooden gear and the keys that will be installed in the neck and used to play can be seen at top leftThe finished model. The neck has been added to the body, the crank that turns the wheel that rubs the string to produce sound is installed at bottom, and two pieces of fishing line have been strung on the instrument

The patch on her vest is seen from above; it has an image from John Carpenter’s “The Thing” printed on it, a human head that has sprouted crab-like legs and eye stalks.

Saw this leaf footed bug in September, not long after it had molted. Never seen one this rosy pink color. I’m sure if I’d come back later it would have darkened to brown; right time, right place :)
A leaf footed bug (Leptoglossus sp) on a wooden post. Its molt is visible just below where it stands. The freshly emerged adult is a rosy pink true bug, with long antennae arced back over its body, and flattened rear-leg sections that look like leaves

What kind of bird is this? #addBirder
The extremely rare bat-winged toad pelican, petrified in its territorial pose. Or, alternatively, a glazed stoneware piece created by Emmanuel Fremiet on display at the Art Institute of Chicago. I think the only way to know is if I’m added to the Birds! contributor list.
The piece is a quadripedal body with toad feet and a pelican’s head with striking orange eyes. It has small bat wings relative to body size. The glaze is a blue-green color.

The cgi reenactment is very helpful, now i know what to do when i break into a 60yr old’s house in the mountains of japan
A simple cgi illustration of a gray room with a low table. The table has a white blanket draped over it. The blanket has been made translucent so you can see the brown bear in its entirety. The bear’s head is shoved under the table to the shoulders, while the whole rest of its body is sprawled on the floor in an extremely relaxed fashion. It’s not snug as a bug in a rug; it’s snug as a large bear who can only fit its head under the table.

A tumbler sits on a wooden bar, partly filled with a pale yellowish liquid. There’s a lime wedge on the rim. On the bar are two stickers that say “I malorted” with an american flag to the side, in the style of an “i voted” sticker

Chicago is very pretty :). Taken earlier this month
Navy Pier on lake michigan. The water is a milky aqua color. It’s late morning and the sky is light blue with lots of wispy clouds. The Ferris wheel can be seen, and blue and white tour boats docked on the pier

A wee baby cardinal fledgling, from September. I think its tiny crest looks like somebody glued a fake eyebrow on its forehead
A recently fledged cardinal with just the start of a crest. The bird’s beak hasn’t turned red yet, is still brown. It is standing on a wooden platform feeder with a seed in its mouth

Iconic
Jiji leans towards Momo holding up peace signs with both hands. His goofy pose contrasts with an extremely serious expression. Jiji excels at these poses that embody the energy of the mullet-half party, half serious Jiji makes the rumic sign with both hands and flails his arms. His face looks like he’s saying “yooooooooooo”. Mostly he looks like a bit of an idiot. Three people stand in the background looking confused, ashamed, or disinterested. Life goals. From the manga, Jiji holds his hands to either side of his face, fingers spread wide, and says “Look, look! An axolotl!” His face looks like a muppet, with big round eyes and a mouth like pacman’s

Throwing it into the ether, any opinions on what type of birds these are? Reminiscent of hoopoes, but no crest. The cabinet was made in England around 1900. Maybe they’re just modified hoopoes? #birds
A mahogany cabinet with inlaid design of two birds in flight on the doors. Birds have rust-orange colored bodies, and wings and tails are black, gray, and white. Handles and lock are twining Art Nouveau style. “Work cabinet” at Art Institute of Chicago, designed by Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott.

Fun bird fact: the onagadori is a Japanese heritage chicken breed, bred for its extremely long tail feathers which don’t molt. You can see this mounted specimen and dozens other cool chicken specimens at the food and ag museum in Tokyo
A person off-camera points to a taxidermied onagadori rooster. The bird is perched on a post about shoulder height. It has a white body, black belly, and red comb. Its long black tail feathers (around 6m or 18ft long) drape down and coil on the ground

Built a thing!
3D paper puzzle of a onagadori, a Japanese white bodied rooster with a very long black tail, standing on a perch. In the background is a toy made by Obvious Plant, explaining why dinosaurs are Stupid Animals. Note that birds, being modern dinosaurs, can also be Stupid Animals.
