Thanks. Eventually I will find one that fits inside a cabinet; this one is okay but I have to put it on a table. And then at least one cat leaps onto the table and the record skips! So, this is a learning process. But it's nice to have something to learn with.

Spent 28 dollars on a record player (one of those "Thomas Museum" ones with the built-in speakers, from the mid-1990's) and it's very not-really-what-I-*eventually*-want . . . but it does work; and I'm loving listening to the same Man of La Mancha LP I used to listen to in my teens. :)

I made the Dolly Parton “cuppa cuppa cuppa,” cake. For me, instead of fruit cocktail in syrup (or juice), I used tart cherries in water. I like how it turned out. Tasty.

The other thing they get called is "anniversary clocks". They have a pendulum that twirls horizontally back and forth, often with four little weights on it. Sometimes there's a glass dome over the top of everything (to keep cats and kids and breezes from messing with the twirl).

But now it seems to have decided to *actually* keep time. I am gobsmacked but very happy. It's the clock I got to be small, somewhat unobtrusive, and sit on a shelf away from, but visible from (if I *look for it*) bed. And it's doing that exact thing! Yay.

OK, so this clock has been a saga unto itself. When I got it, it was not "in beat," which meant I needed to fiddle with the doojobby up on top where the wire thing attaches, and turn it juuuuust slightly till there was both a "tick" and a "tock". So that was something.

ebay seller: Not sure why this clock runs several hours fast per day. Me, looking at the photos: Well, many possible reasons for that exist. But a big reason for SURE is that somebody removed the weighted disk at the bottom of that clock's pendulum . . . .

There is good food throughout the metro area. Lake Street has many good Mexican places (as does Central Avenue). University Avenue in Saint Paul is where many Hmong refugees started businesses and restaurants.) Nicollet Avenue just south of downtown is “eat street”.
