With an easy thought Ares was at the mortal prince’s side instantly, still concealed from sight. He allowed his voice to be heard by the mortal prince and him alone. Do not make a sound, enemies are approaching.
The mortal stiffened, taking far too long to think over the words he had heard from seemingly nowhere. Ares snatched the boy off his feet in one arm, clasping the other hand around his mouth just in case, and swiftly pulled him to the end of the room behind a large tapestry whose border reached the floor. The mortal prince began to struggle as soon as he felt ghostly arms around him, but his scrawny frame was easy enough to contain for a god like Ares.
Well, maybe not that scrawny. Holding the mortal prince close to his body, he could feel strong muscles rippling against his chest and straining against his arms. Interesting. Athena trained him well.
Though one good kick to the shin had him thinking maybe Athena could have helped him see helpful divine intervention for what it was.
