Pickling watermelon radish and Persian cucumbers today. I get liberal about what spices I use, then vary vinegar, salt and sugar to dial in what I prefer and I hope our friends will enjoy. Fenugreek, cardamom, garlic, pomegranate blossom, pink peppercorn and mustard seeds went into these.

How might a system operate that rewards everyone in both explicit and implicit ways for restoring fisheries, kelp forests, grasslands, jungles and other ecologies? substack.com/@ramanfrey/n...

We've got your t-shirts for your kids, just in today. Jordan Colton and Dace James are in on our Fertile Mountain jokes about Camp Earnest. Many moments and memories these last few days when they absolutely thrilled and delighted our son.

We call these "family walks," almost a mile out and back to Karin's Cairn, at the path that leads down to our biggest waterfalls.

Karin's keen eye spotted these MAMMOTH oyster mushrooms sprouting from one of the dead alders in our creek, so I headed down and harvested them. Pasta tonight!

Profit motive may not actually be the answer to what ails us and may deserve a greatly diminished role. A resurgent commons however might do nicely. And bioregional economies made resilient by seeing to their own foundational needs.

Imagine if our National Parks slowly grew and water, clean air, healthy wilderness was everywhere and was no longer vulnerable to privatization, exploitation, extraction and degradation. Imagine half of the land on earth "rewilded" and a lot of work made available in conserving this wilderness?

Well what if a different design was possible, that kept capital circulating within communities and embraced the commons and collective stewardship of them?

It's neoclassical economics, the water we swim in, siphoning capital away from working people and all the way to Wall Street. Mom and pops die and Walmart balloons, or nothing survives and all that's left is a hollowed out local economy, maybe a few starvation wage jobs.

Most of America for quite some time may have noticed a faint sucking sound everywhere but especially in small towns and rural areas.

Okay, let's hit pause now on berry and vegetable starts. I've made a lot of work for myself. If you're planning to visit Camp Earnest and want to chip in with some garden help and planting berries, flowers and fruit trees around campus, let me know.

When when my daughter was born and I first became a father, my friends gave me the nickname "Papa Smurf." Well our bathhouse at Camp Earnest is going full Smurf, deep blue.

The old laptop and the new one. The old carried about 20 years of sticker memories. I’ve been saving new stickers for a few years now for this new one. Present self and memory self. How do you relate to the selves you’ve been?

Sometimes we need to step back and just make sure we're still awake to the world as it is. Not fear, not fantasy, just meeting life in the moment.

This wonderful book has a LOT of words. I couldn't imagine my son sitting still all the way through, almost 20 minutes. But I got to sit in the massage chair while he sat in my lap and I read him the whole book. Even better? We listened to Duke on the massage chair speakers while we read.

Hard to embrace the label, but I think I'm a revolutionary. And this is the revolution our moment requires. Thank you for this gift to the world John Fullerton and to the luminaries who are part of our larger coherence around a civilization that regenerates and restores the web of life.

Here to advise if you're the winning bid. I see agroforestry and greenhouse gardens for year round fresh produce, a deeply caring chef and actual catalytic programming that's not just there to comfort the most powerful.

A fascinating evening at The Lightning Society in Brooklyn, put together by our friends Benjamin Von Wong and featuring Michael Mezzatesta and myself, all about the present and future of leaning into regenerative economics. Our movement is in the air! It was a packed house!

Last night's sunset release of baby turtles on Playa La Ropa. The boy was immobilized and frankly concerned. We had to explain that they live in the ocean and are happy there.

@nickjankel.bsky.social thanks again for popping up to SF from LA after your trip to Amsterdam. Going into The Dark together was a transformative conversation for our community, reflecting on courage, introspection and the kind of initiations and medicine needed by so many right now in our society.

If you're wondering what it's like to have the courage of your convictions and the integrity to stay the course over decades, read this book. We could use more leaders who are fundamentally motivated by things other than wealth, fame and power.
