This time next week, Beating Drums gets its official single release! There’s a bit more than just guitar and vocals on the recording, but here’s a live version to whet the appetite… youtu.be/P_f_r27gZAY?... #music #newmusic #folkmusic

The new single, Beating Drums, will be out on all streaming platforms and Bandcamp on 2nd October 2026! A live favourite that was also the first song I wrote inspired by Paganism and the wheel of the year. This is Pagan folk rock with the emphasis on the word “rock”! #music #newmusic #folkmusic

Final mix done! Need to sort out the artwork (well, take a photo and add some text 😉) and then schedule the release date. Rather looking forward to this one as it’s almost exactly a year since I wrote it… #music #newmusic

Had a splendiferous evening at Harrogate Folk Club. The audience sang along in all the right places, despite never having heard the songs before! #music #folkmusic

Had a little mixing session this morning before work. It’s an acoustic song, but I’ve added a little distortion to the bass and it sits really well in the mix… (I’m using the Abbey Road Saturator plugin, for those who care about which things…) #music

Recording a new song and I’ve finally got all elements recorded. Only a rough mix at the moment, but this is shaping up to be one of the best recordings I’ve ever made. The song was written a year ago, so it’s high time it had a single release. Watch this space for details… #music

Going to try transferring a Cubase project from my PC to Cubasis on my iPad for a bit of remote recording (need to record a percussion part that I can’t do in my usual environment). Expect swearing, wailing and gnashing of teeth… 😉😂 #music

An incredibly fulfilling trip to Avebury Stone Circle today. Also visited West Kennet Long Barrow with a lovely view of Silbury Hill on the way. Lots of sites all around the area. Far too much to see in one day, so, oh dear, it looks like I’ll need to have another little holiday down this way…

Finally managed to climb Glastonbury Tor. Very windy on top, but definitely worth it for the views! #glastonbury

Just landed in Glastonbury for a little holiday. Had the surreal experience of following a camper van for several miles that had a lifesize cutout of Bob Mortimer staring out of the back window! 😂 #glastonbury #holiday #summer

From last night at The Thursday Club, Knaresborough. An open mic for songwriters (a rare thing in this neck of the woods). Played a couple of new songs that were really well received. Expect some videos soon… #music

Got another song brewing on the cuatro. The guitar has always been my main songwriting instrument, but there are times when a song really needs a different sound. The song I’m working isn’t the usual, full-throttle rock that most people know me for, so a fingerpicked cuatro is the perfect backing

Kim Ralls @rallsk.bsky.social · 25/07/2026

Blimey, enough of the AI-generated gig and open mic posters! They all look the same and show zero style. It doesn’t take much effort to create a simple, effective poster with free software, and you’ll have something that looks far better than the generic slop an AI will churn out

Another trip to Grass Woods on Sunday. Took my guitar, notebook and pen and wrote a new song. It almost wrote itself. Got the first verse sat next to an old beech tree that didn’t seem to mind. Finished the rest off sat on a rock at Fort Gregory, an iron age hill fort, singing to the ancestors

Wyndham is out on the garden wall in full sunlight. He’s slowly digesting a mealworm that I fed him a few days ago. There are some brown patches on his pitchers, but I think that’s mainly the stress of being posted from Wales and getting used to a new environment

After twenty years (eep!) as a performing musician, I’ve never lost that slight sense of imposter syndrome with new songs; will the audience like it, is it as good as my last song, am I going to remember all the lyrics?! However, I’m just grateful that I’ve come out the other side of a lyrical dry
