Look, if he's going to go to all the trouble of building a new Banqueting House, we might as well put it to it's historically intended use... (Sorry, I realise this is an incredibly niche joke on a serious topic.)

Hey, the 11-state solution was a totally viable road to peace in South Africa, or something…

Was going to make a joke about them naming it F-47 because that’s the year it’ll enter service, then I saw it’s called F-47 after Trump, and I’m not sure you need any more jokes than that.

He claimed much later that he intended it to be stealthy, but as with most Nazi luminaries, he was making it up to look better in hindsight.

Horten actually chose the design because it was fuel efficient - they needed to try weird and wonderful designs because the RLM had set absurd range, speed and bomb load requirements.

I’m shocked, shocked, I say, to discover Britain is a party to a war it supports with intelligence, fighter screens and basing rights?!

Wieso sind die Wahlen zum Ministerpräsident in Deutschland geheim? Die Unterstützung einer Regierung ist ein hochpolitischer Akt, der von den Wählern beslohnt oder bestraft werden sollte.

Ah, fair point. Still a huge corp tax bill at £100m+! Wonder how much of the payout goes to HMRC via income taxes for the performers…

Climate change will kill more Britons and damage the economy more than enemy missiles this century. Yet somehow, everyone pretends it’s too expensive to do anything about, while spaffing billions on imaginary missile defence systems.

Part of the problem is that it’s not just this Israeli government though. The next one will likely win an election on a platform of “Bibi did was incompetent and corrupt. We’ll do what he does, but better.” Zionism, by supporting the state in its current form, is clearly what needs critiquing.

This. Global liberalism has failed to respond to demographic and economic crisis and fascism is appearing in a number of advanced economies, precisely because they are advanced economies and capital is actively supporting fascism (just like the last time…)

That feels a bit unfair to Kaiserreich, which is “what if Germany won WWI, and then half the world had a utopian communist-syndicalist revolution that (in most games) peaks in a second, communist-syndicalism US Revolution?”

Funny how the cops suddenly ban masks when there’s a counter-protest. Where was the mask ban when uniformed paramilitaries threatened the RNLI?!

True, but that’s also a different cuisine from British-Indian food, which is an interestingly weird British-adapted form of Punjabi food cooked mostly by Bengalis. The old story about Chicken Tikka Masala coming from perplexed Brits asking “where’s the gravy” when confronted with Chicken Tikka, etc.

No no, someone in Neukölln who voted Links said that maybe Germany should stop arming a genocide, so now we’re going to have weeks of talk shows about how antisemitic the left is… 🙄

The replies under this are very Bluesky. Anyway, this would be positive and frankly more of a legacy than anything Starmer did. He should do it.

Germany is where a minor sourcing error in your 20-year old PHD kills your political career, but ZDF can dub Gazan children “being killed” by the Israelis as “starving” and nobody cares.

I find it interesting that masking is a predominantly American social/political symbol. In Europe, because Covid-denial and anti-masking/vax nonsense was so far outside the mainstream, it never caught on as a left-of-centre signifier.

🎶 It was back in nineteen forty-two I was a member of a good platoon We were on maneuvers in-a Louisiana One night by the light of the moon The captain told us to ford a river That's how it all begun We were -- knee deep in the Big Muddy But the big fool said to push on 🎶

If you want a learning Berlin voting Left, it’s the same as everywhere else. People want ideas and action. Centrist parties need to learn that you can Just Do Stuff.

Chancellors constantly falling was one of the reasons he got in, so less than you think. The mechanism is easy enough, it’s just that the parties don’t do it.

They really really did this to themselves. Badly managed reunification, Hartz IV, Schuldenbremse, a decade of managed decline under Merkel, etc. etc.

Good article that makes good points, but rather ignores that the majority of an immigrants income is likely to be spent in Britain, generating VAT, corporation tax, income tax on the jobs created, etc. etc. etc. Hard to model, but shouldn't be ignored, if we're trying to make an economic argument.

Candidates doing videos in other languages is going to be the new "Obama-style Campaign Emails" isn't it? Mamdani did it and won, so they'll all try. It's all over the Berlin election, the centrists sniggered when Polanski did it, but then do it themselves, etc. etc.

Canada and the EU building a closer alliance is great. But it feels a bit…off that the white settler colony that genocided its indigenous population is the one that’s getting a sweetheart deal.

Meta really wasn’t keen on my calling Ed Sheeran a bootlicker.
A screenshot of an attempt to post a story (with a caption calling Ed Sheeran a boot licker for throwing Macklemore off his tour) on instagram. A pop up has appeared saying “this caption looks similar to others that have been reported”.

Labour really will be the handmaidens of fascism in Britain. A great shame on a once great party.
