Lovely to be involved in producing this new genome sequence assembly for Hypericum pulchrum with #DTOL folks (incl. #RoyalBotanicGardensEdinburgh, @rbgkew.bsky.social, #Sanger Inst. ), who did all the hard work. wellcomeopenresearch.org/articles/11-...

Does #environmental #stress magnify #inbreeding depression? Our #meta-analysis of 116 studies shows inbreeding costs are greater in benign conditions. In stressful environments, inbreeding costs peak under intermediate stress intensity (a non-linear relationship). www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Inbreeding depression is greater in benign than in stressful environments
The potential for environmental change to compound the detrimental effects of inbreeding depression in small and isolated populations is a significant concern in conservation biology. Previous evidenc...

Plant #genomesize varies hugely, but what drives variation within species? In #Festuca ovina, #genomesize is associated with fine-scale variation in #soil depth—but not #climate —highlighting the importance of edaphic conditions. #BCCIL @ect-uk.bsky.social onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Plant Genome Size Is Associated With Fine‐Scale Spatial Variation in Soil Depth, but Not Climatic Conditions, in the Grass <fi>Festuca ovina</fi>
Intraspecific variation in plant genome size could allow adaptation to changing environmental conditions. Using the world's longest running drought manipulation experiment, we make a long-term experi...
