Pretty much same here 60+, went from a 6s to the still lightening 14 Pro Max. I strive to post recent profile pics cuz I hate when people say you’re looking great and, like, duh, well that one was from 5+ years ago. 😁

Fortunately, our local mega corporate cable provider airs four local PBS networks. So I consult the TV guide grid to see what’s on. As we sports fans know chasing after various streaming subscriptions really add💲 up!

Not a fan of reality TV. Closest I’d go with are Shark Tank and/or Below Deck. But this list is pretty much basic cable v premium HBO/streaming shows etc. People need to get over themselves. We’re not talking Masterpiece Theater or Shakespeare In The Park here. 🙂🤔

Citing Rocky IV loses it for me right off the bat. Meritocracy!? It was all downhill after the scriptwriters kill off Apollo Creed.

Hard being a local sports fan these days. Philadelphia Union play in the city of Chester. There’s a stadium waterfront view, a casino nearby, and little else. It’s hard to drive in and out. I’d talk friends into going now and then, but when MLS opted out of local TV for streaming I lost interest.

A quick search led to a 7 min YouTube mini rom com. Listened for a few secs- sounded twangy and familiar.

Not seen that one, but I’m hooked on a bunch of the mysteries- Inspector George Gently recently started on a local PBS affiliate here. Marble Hall On Masterpiece is really good- a kind of surreal book within a book plot. And the French crime investigative duo on Astrid is fascinating .

Come to Philly! It was great seeing MP&P on repeat last night (unfortunately I missed the first part watching John Oliver). I hope you’re enjoying your new time slot and hope to see some more repeats so I can catch up on weekend late nights from time to time. 💰🙂💸

As a kid I couldn’t get enough of British spy dramas- 007, The Avengers, Secret Angent (featuring actor pictured above in a different role). The Prisoner was very weird in a Kafkaesque way but so interesting. 🕵️‍♂️

Yes, Adam Mockler frequented the 11th Hour panel before the host changed her time slot.

Scott Jennings is maybe not even the worst of that panel anymore. I switch over from O’Donnell for a few mins. just to see what a train wreck it is. A. Phillips seems like a nice person but it’s just outta control with guest talking over one another. Charles Blow is occasionally a good guest.

So many of my favorite journalists, especially sportswriters, still rely on Elonia and FB platforms to maintain their global public personas. We often see accounts move here trying things out for a while and then seem to give up right away. Pathetic how two men dominate almost all social media.

This is why Trump can’t stand Black women. They don’t take his shit. Let’s appreciate Rep. Joyce Beatty for being the fighter we need. Trump: “I think you’re incompetent.” Beatty: “I know you’re incompetent.” Then she reminded him: “You had more bankruptcies than anybody in the room.” 🔥

Heck, two obscenely wealthy men basically control ALL social media. Remember when Yahoo held most of what fascinated us?

No, really. But the WWW is brilliant as originally conceived. I remember leaving an Apple store with a decent $$$ state-of-the-art laptop, bookmarked favorite websites for daily perusal, civilized chat/message board interactions, discount shopping, browser games etc. Are we at a point of no return?

Prometheus then and now. www.geekculture.com/joyoftech/jo...

A two panel Joy of Tech comic…
In the first panel, labeled "THEN...", Prometheus kneels in an ancient, rocky landscape before early humans, handing them a bowl of fire. In the background is Mt. Olympus, home of the Gods. Prometheus says, "I will be punished forever for stealing this from the gods, but here you go... this is fire!"
In the second panel, labeled "NOW...", tech executives (Elon Musk, Dario Amodei, and Sam Altman) wearing hoodies branded "xAI", "Anthropic", and "OpenAI" kneel inside a server-filled room, offering bowls of crackling electricity to anthropomorphic AI company logos. Dario Amodei says, "Here's electricity! We're going to make billions off you AIs, and humanity is going to have to live with the consequences!" The logos reach for the electricity greedily.

A hottake for today: in and of itself perhaps a midterm political party convention isn’t such a bad idea? Not a caucus of crazy we saw last night, but a special event to formulate policy and messaging to energize a voting public? Maybe more effective than bombarding folks with TV campaign ads.? 🤔

memes or crazy AI slop images usualy only serve to provide a platform for those entities we fight against. Supporting the creators of great, effective, visual wit and biting satire benefits an educated, aware and informed populace. Thank you for coming to my BOBTalk‼️🖊️🎨

Lots of political cartoonists out there doing great work, despite the dreary economic state of the print news business. When sharing their work please avoid cropping out their signature. Even better include a line or link (or in the alt text) indentifying them and their publishing outlet etc. Silly

The National Memorial is a sacred space for truth telling and reflection about racial terrorism and its legacy. On a hilltop overlooking Montgomery is the nation’s first comprehensive memorial dedicated to the legacy of Black Americans who were enslaved and terrorized by lynching.

I have a volume of Borges stories- Labyrinths- on my shelf from my Rutgers days but couldn’t really make heads or tails of it. I do appreciate a lot of magical realism stuff, like 100 Years Of Solitude, but especially in film.

I loved the first one. I have the lightcycles game on my phone. Years back, the arcade game was badass. It required two quarters to play inside a padded booth with stereo speakers and a joystick with which you launched death Frisbee discs at your computer opponent. Good times.

I’ve been a fan of various motorsports- sports in general, but this event is stupid. Hopefully, with new car designs and better engineering and technologies on the horizon this thrilling and exciting sport will hit bottom for a bit and become better than ever, as it was in the mid ‘70s. 🙂🤔

They are awful and hard to kill. In early spring they get fooled by a warm house as they crawl through window cracks to escape the evening cooling. The reply is correct, stomping ‘em emits an odor that attracts more them. I’ve heard a scent of peppermint, lavender, and thyme serves as a repellent.

Big Philly fan but we love that place for weekend baseball getaways. I miss seeing the nostalgic Baltimore Sun banner above the scoreboard a bit. Back in the day when newsprint editions were still a thing. 🙂🤔⚾️
