Another episode released! Priya and I got to talk to Aritra Sarkar, starting his work as a scientist at ISRO and now working on the intersection of quantum algorithms and AI! Really fun to hear more about his life, thoughts and the way he approaches work :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlow...

So you're saying that there's no need because having their name on the paper implies that already?

Happy to finally get this comment, mostly written in 2023, out on arXiv! If you care about quantum kernels, then I would recommend at least a quick read through section 1 :) arxiv.org/abs/2608.24923 As usual any feedback is welcome!

Comment on 'Supervised quantum machine learning models are kernel methods'
We identify a few small errors in the proof of Theorem 1 in M. Schuld, 'Supervised quantum machine learning models are kernel methods' (arXiv:2101.11020v2), Appendix A. These do not affect the validit...

Agreed! But then the repo owner says > ...represents, conservatively, one to six months of focused work. At a postdoc's fully-loaded cost that is somewhere between $15,000 and $80,000, and the leading constraint isn't even the money

Haha fair enough 😅 genuine question: you're not so enthusiastic about some of the recent work on spectral methods (e.g. arxiv.org/abs/2603.24654), QELM/QRC (e.g. arxiv.org/abs/2603.13005) or hybrid QML (e.g. arxiv.org/abs/2504.16275) being maybe useful on NISQ (none of these works are mine)?

Rajiv Krishnakumar @rajivkrishnakumar.bsky.social · 30/04/2026
Test analogy on NISQ vs Fault-Tolerant (FT). NISQ is easy to get started on but unclear ultimate potential - like path that is initially easy but the top is clouded. FT has a clear(er) path, but tougher to start and still some known and unknown challenges before it's useful. Feedback/thoughts?

The (small but clean) novel contribution that our paper shows is that you can use a very naive method of plucking a few integer Fourier frequencies around zero (e.g. [-1, 0, 1]) as a heuristic and it worked for the cases we tried!

In more detail - we used the already-known method of taking the partial Fourier series of the quantum layer and keeping only the leading terms. We saw that this did not degrade the performance of the model.

I think a way to fight blog posts is to preach to non-experts to 1. Find the link to the scientific paper in the blog post 2. Upload just the paper (not blog post or any other media) into NotebookLM 3. Ask NotebookLM your questions It's not perfect but (so far) it's pretty decent!
