Sausage, onion, garlic, black beans, blackeye peas, + sweet corn generously pan fried. Seasoned w oregano, black pepper, cayenne, + guajillo, simmered for several hours with tomatoes + homemade broth (chicken + turkey). Served with lime + cilantro, over green onion and poblano pepper cornbread.

Top-down photo of a bowl of hearty soup. The broth is mostly clear, obscured by a layer of bright red oil floating on top. Several bits of the aforementioned ingredients are plainly visible.

Haven't been documenting my knitting, but I am still working on it. 3 blue panels are complete, so I've started a fourth panel in this bluegrass/lavender color. 50 of 80 rows done. I'm now 14,500 stitches into this blanket.

Photo of a few knitted items. A stack of 3 blue items are folded into neat rectangles. Currently fixed to metallic blue knitting needles is a broad rectangle of lavender and blue-green ombre.

This has been Amira's favorite spot to sleep since the day I brought her home from the shelter. Today, I caught Yamyam sleeping in it for the first time since we took her in a few years ago. She isn't always eager to try elevated nap spots bc of her arthritis, so I'm super happy she loves it 😭

A semi-tortoise shell mostly tabby patterned cat curled up comfortably in a purple saucer chair, looking towards the camera.

Same cat, now with her face and nose tucked in towards her body to sleep.

Potato soup for dinner tonight. Ground sausage, yellow onion, fresh garlic, fresh baby portobello mushrooms, so many russet potatoes, so much water, evaporated milk, frozen spinach, and half the spice cabinet. I had mine with cheese and plain yogurt (cheap sour cream substitute).

Taking a term off from school, partly so I can catch up with my Mom now that she's permanently back home, but mostly so I can enjoy a long break full of my hobbies again. I'm knitting bc tis the season. Working towards a blanket by making a bunch of panels I'll secure to one another later.

Photo of a knitted rectangle, laid out flat, with a tape measure across it. It appears striped in shades of blue.

Photo of a similar knitted blue panel in progress. A cat is playing with the tape measure sitting next to it.

Took a great selfie last week that I forgot to post to most socials 💖🥰

Bust portrait of Rainy, leaning her chin on her hand. She is wearing thick black eyeliner and black lip color. She has long, straight, dark hair. A few paintings are visible on the wall behind her.

Some goofball survivors in #DeadByDaylight left me offerings on the Midwich courtyard sigil hehe

The image depicts a scene from a video game. In the foreground, a character standing near giant chains with concrete debris scattered around, implying that they burst from or into the ground by force. The character is facing toward the viewer, and another character is crouched behind them. Between the characters and the viewer, an intricate red sigil is painted on the ground. A few player items are scattered on the sigil. The environment suggests a dark, nighttime setting. The overall atmosphere is intense and dramatic, typical of survival-horror games.

If you ever match with me as Susie Legion, you can guarantee your safety with a particular Leon Kennedy cosmetic. I'll follow you around like a lovesick puppy and refuse to let the Entity have you.

The image shows a character in a video game setting, dressed in a colorful outfit with a hood and a mask. They are standing in tall grass, appearing to be in motion. On the right side of the image, there is a chat box displaying messages from the user "RainyWraith." The messages include: "sorry if you wanted a challenge," "I can't resist a man in a tailored vest," and "xoxox." The overall atmosphere suggests a playful interaction within the game.

Bless you! Posted with no corrections. I stopped writing alt text for art specifically bc I have a tiny audience and no energy after drawing, but this will make my art much more accessible going forward.

The image features a pencil sketch of a character with a stitched mask and long hair, wearing a loose hoodie and a skirt. The character holds an object resembling a weapon in one hand. The sketch shows details like the character's clothing, which appears tattered, and the texture of the hair. A purple pen is placed next to the sketch, indicating the artist's tools. The background is softly blurred, focusing attention on the drawing.

Slightly different sketchbook page today. Think I'll work on it more later. I'm enjoying drawing simple kitties.

An exercise in which random pencil scribbles are used to create a background in which you might see shapes to draw. Then you come over it with ink to bring what you see to the front.

Attempt at mixing representation and abstraction. Will likely do this one again because I'm not in love with it.

I haven't felt like logging in since I got a new computer, but I needed to share some #art I made :)

Digital painting of a top-down view of a green beetle, with wings open to reveal a bunch of wildflowers (clovers, clover flowers, wild strawberries, and strawberry flowers) under its elytra. Pink lily-of-the-valley has taken the place of its wings. Above it, a poppy flower is positioned much like the sun in scarab motifs.

I'm not usually active on socials much, so here's a couple #foods I documented since I was last here. Gumbo with rice a couple weeks ago, EIGHT-CHEESE cheesy bread this morning. (Apologies in advance to the Cajuns who notice tomatoes in the gumbo).

A photo looking down on a bowl of gumbo with white rice. Visible ingredients are tomatoes, chicken, shrimp, sausage, and celery.

A photo looking down on a sliced and already partially claimed disc of cheesy bread. It looks a lot like a cheese pizza, but without tomato sauce.

My sister shared a photo of a bunch of #nazar on Facebook, and it reminded me of a project I started 3 years ago, but never finished. I sat up in bed last night and started it from scratch, with new #ConceptArt that improves on the original and incorporates the color scheme of nazar. #art

Photo of a traditional media colored pencil drawing in a sketchbook. The drawing is visibly inspired by nazar (the blue eye beads used to ward away the curse of the evil eye). Against a dark blue or indigo background, many eyes of different sizes stare towards the viewer. The irises of the eyes vary in color; some are bright blue, some are denim blue, a few are lavender, and the rest are gold. A couple eyes are weeping golden tears.

More than anything else I do (besides gaming probably), I cook. A lot. I really love #food. I have my favorites, but I also love to learn new recipes and introduce variety into my nutrition and my palette 😋 My most famous dish within my circle is probably my potato soup (not pictured).

Photo looking down towards a slice of cake. The remainder of the cake is in better view in the background. It's a red velvet layer cake, with white icing all around (made with heavy cream and instant pudding, it's amazing), and topped with fresh halved strawberries. Inside the cake, in between the layers, more white icing with strawberries is visible.

Photo looking down towards a whole square pizza. It's topped with white cheese, pepperoni, and mushrooms.

Photo looking straight on from the side of a loaf of bread. It has mostly evenly spaced ridges sliced in the top. It's a lovely shade of golden brown.

Photo looking down on a large half-filled bowl. A corner of the squarish bowl holds a few sections of cornbread, pan fried to a golden yellow color. The cornbread has a few gooey sprinkles of white and yellow cheese. The remainder of the bowl is filled with stew. The stew is visibly composed of strings of shredded meat, black beans, diced onion, and diced tomatoes. Cilantro adds some green notes to the visual.

I make my own #pizza at home, but it's usually real thick pan pizza (sort of a fluffy bread with pizza toppings). Husband requested we ORDER pizza soon bc they miss thin crust. So I'm experimenting while they're on the road for work to make it myself. Could be crispier, but it's a great start. #food

Super late #dinner, this is my favorite meal lately! (You can tell bc I ate it halfway before photographing it 😅). Slow-cooked pork and bean stew and garlic cornbread, served with cilantro, colby jack cheese, and salsa verde. Tbh, it doesn't even need the cheese, it's just a nice bonus. #food

Photo looking down inside a large half-filled bowl. A few sections of golden yellow cornbread are standing on edge toward one side, lightly gooey with white and yellow shreds of cheese. The remainder of the bowl is filled with a hearty stew. Black beans, diced tomatoes, and shreds of meat are visible. The red of the tomatoes and the green of the cilantro add a bit of color and figurative brightness to the visual.

Sometimes I write. More often, I read; I'm interested in booksky, though it seems that corner may be mostly for fiction? I read almost exclusively non-fiction, usually about science (especially disease!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I'd love recommendations from other non-fiction bookskies though 😊

Screenshot from a notes app on Android. Text reads:

I don't want to die
I don't want to live

A soul that didn't ripen enough in the ether
or perhaps I was forgotten in the garden
spoiled
and I'm no longer fit for corporeality
in this time
or this place

I don't feel small in the scale of the universe
planets
stars
galaxies
but nothing reduces me
to a mote of dust in a desert
like other people

How is it possible that they are all giants
bounding over mountains
whose peaks I don't even see?

Screenshot from the Libby library app, playing an audiobook. The audiobook cover shows an old pen sketch of a sick-looking dog. The book is "Rabid" by Bill Wasik and Monica Murphy.

A screenshot from the Libby library app, playing an audiobook. The book thumbnail shows Jennette McCurdy (famously known as Sam from iCarly) dressed in pink and holding up an even more pink urn. The book title is "I'm Glad My Mom Died".

Photo of a hardcover book, still in a lightly worn book jacket. The cover background is a black and white photo of a lot of people standing in a crowd. In white text contrasting the background, the book title is "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" by Isabel Wilkerson.

These are my girls! They are very normal, not needy, and not constantly competing for my attention 😅

Slightly blurry photo of two brown tabby cats napping on a person (that's me) who is mostly out of frame. One cat has an orange spot on her otherwise black forehead that looks as if someone accidentally dropped bleach on her.

Photo of a small brown tabby cat sitting up on the corner of a bed. In the background, the other tabby is peeking at the first from around a corner in the hallway. She's just out of focus enough that you can imagine any emotion on her face. I took the photo imagining that she's looking in with jealousy at the first girl.

A small brown tabby cat curled up on a bright pastel purple and mint scarf. My hand is in the foreground, holding up a set of knitting needles, which the scarf is still on.

A small brown tabby cat, the one with the orange spot, has more visible orange coloring throughout her coat in this photo. She is sitting in a very silly way while looking toward the viewer. Her back legs are folded tightly under her as she half-sits on the arm of a couch, but her front legs are fully extended to hold her torso over the seat of the couch.

I am also a mom to cats and rats! 2 senior girl kitties, 3 grown boy ratties. I just finished a pretty neat project for the boys, in which I decorated their cage in SO many cardboard pieces that I themed after Super Mario (and I'm over 30, so arts and crafts time killed my back 💀).

Photo of inside a very large cage for small animals. Shelves are decorated in cardboard toys. One is a shelf made to look like a white cloud with a smiling face. There is a ramp made to look like a rainbow which leads up to the cloud. Another is a large red mushroom with white spots and a set of small eyes on the yellow "stem". A litter box is hidden behind stylized green hills, also with a set of little eyes. A cylindrical piece is decorated to look like a green pipe.

Photo zoomed in close on the paper cloud and rainbow. A black rat is sitting behind and peeking over the rainbow towards the viewer.

I'm Rainy! I play video games a lot and make art... less a lot :') But I'm practicing my art more regularly lately. I bounce around between pixel art and digital painting, and I'm learning a manga style too. I've worked with traditional media since I was a kid, but going digital is growing on me!

Digital painting of a corgi dog from about his shoulder up. The background is a vibrant red. He's looking at the viewer, mouth open and tongue showing in that classic dog "smile" way. Signed "Rainywraith '22"

Pixel art of the Pokemon Eevee, which is a highly stylized light brown fox with large eyes and a huge fluffy tail. It's in full view, looking over its shoulder, mouth open and sort of smiling toward the viewer.

Pixel art on a dark, navy blue background. In the foreground is the planet earth, the continents Africa and Eurasia facing the viewer. It is set on a small pedestal, and light indigo hands are posed around it, like those of a fortune teller over a crystal ball. Text under the earth reads "What does our future hold?"

Digital manga style drawing of a girl from about the shoulder up, looking up and away from the viewer at a 3/4 angle. She has light skin, a scene style "mullet" iconic of the early 00s (that is "early aughts", just in case a screen reader did not read that the way it should be pronounced). Everything but her skin is colored in shades of magenta. A section of her mostly pink hair is white with horizontal dark stripes. She is wearing a hairclip designed like crossbones and a choker necklace that is also a skull and crossbones. Signed "rainywraith"
