I started updating my website again. (Note that I never stopped working on it; I've mostly just been doing research and photography for stuff that hasn't been edited and posted yet.) Anyway, this Daxter plush is really neat. collection.rainknight.net

I stumbled upon it in the store yesterday when going to pick up an online order, and I was weak.

This broccoli came from one of these little guys I started from seed on my kitchen table. (No, I never fixed the time on my talking flower. It still screams in Japanese all night long. We've just come to accept it.)

A 3D printed tray containing 12 K-Cups full of dirt. Some of them have tiny broccoli sprouts coming out of them. Above their grow light, a Talking Flower screams into the night.

Broccoli bolted super fast with all of this crazy heat, but it's still quite delicious.

Broccoli crown that's bolted prematurely with some little yellow flowers starting to open.

That same broccoli crown, but cut up and boiled. It's a saturated dark green color. Stringier looking than your average broccoli, but still delicious.

So, I got a Talking Flower to keep my plants company while I'm at work, but I screwed up setting the active time range, so now I just hear this high pitched voice screaming in Japanese all night while I'm trying to sleep. (We had it set to Japanese in the game, so I figured I'd keep it consistent.)

My new toy finally arrived from the UK, so of course the first thing I did was play Lolo on it.

I fear the end is near for the broccoli plants in my garden that I tried growing from seed in late summer. We made it almost halfway through December, but they still haven't formed a crown, and now we're expecting our first big snowfall of the year and temperatures in the low teens tomorrow. 😔

A broccoli plant and some parsley growing in a raised garden bed. They're covered by a clear plastic tent to protect from frost and have some dead leaves around them acting as mulch to try to retain some heat. Behind them are some dead tomato and pepper plants and a second plastic tent covering another broccoli plant.

In honor of the Wii U's 13th anniversary (of the Japanese launch) and Rhea Seehorn fucking finally getting a Golden Globe nomination, here's the current state of my Better Call Saul shrine, which lives in my office next to my Wii U.

Two small acrylic display cases filled with a variety of Better Call Saul collectibles sit atop a white shelf next to a Wii U and Wii U Gamepad. There are also a few random video game plushes surrounding them because of course there are.

Too sick to get out of bed today, so I can only check on the plant babies through the window. 😢

Stumbled upon this one out of necessity. This is the amount of damage cabbage worms can do in one night. With a couple of the smaller seedlings, there was nothing left but the stem. 😭 But then I got the netting and realized they looked like little ghost costumes, lol. 👻

Got the baby broccs all potted up and dressed in lil ghost costumes for Halloween (and so the cabbage worms don't eat them).

Is my spinach seedling already starting to bolt? Seriously? 😩

A seedling that I certainly thought was spinach seems to want to flower already?

I found this 3D printed window sill seed starter that uses recycled K-Cups as pots and tried to see if I could get some spinach to sprout. 2 out of 4 isn't bad, I guess!

The horrors persist, so I'm coping by attempting fall crops for the first time. Also my first time trying to grow anything from seed. Here are all my little baby spinnies and broccs (aka spinach and broccoli). Pretty mixed results so far, but I'm learning!

Biggest difference was the texture. The black beauty was more spongy while the white eggplant was more dense. I fried these, and I think the denser texture of the white eggplant made it better for frying since it could crisp up on the outside and be creamy on the inside without turning to mush.

Eggplant update! Did a taste test between the white eggplant and a black beauty, also from my garden. Taste was very similar. They were both ripe with absolutely no bitterness and just a hint of sweetness, though the sweetness came out in the white eggplant more after cooking than raw.

On this third anniversary of the Better Call Saul episode Point and Shoot, I'm thinking about this photo of my cat Sera, who always used to hang out and watch Better Call Saul with me and passed away shortly after the series ended. She was my little TV buddy, and I miss her so, so much.

Not zero! My beloved Dreamcast is there!! The story there is that I had the Nintendo house growing up, and my friend had the Sega house, so I grew up playing Master System and Genesis games at his place, but I didn't own the systems myself until I bought them used later (so sadly no boxes).
