Hey just as an fyi, every website on the internet gets scraped including the 3 you mentioned you use (scraping is done by a third party, not the platform itself). In fact, bluesky is designed to be a lot easier to scrape than other websites!

Every site on the internet is being scraped, not just cara. In fact, bluesky is generally easier to scrape than other websites! They just don't really care about it, unlike Cara, so you don't hear about it.

Cara does not have enough staff to be able to handle moderating NSFW content as they're a volunteer team. If you want to post NSFW content, then Cara is just not for you, which is fine. Not everything is for everyone. The rules are very easy to find, you just have to be willing to read them.

Hey, keep in mind that deleting your art won't remove it from the datasets. Also, it doesn't matter where on the internet you go, your art can be scraped. Cara is just open about it and actually cares that it's happening. So if you post art on bluesky, it's probably been scraped too

"Democratizing art" should be something that involves respect of consent and an increase in opportunities and free resources for people to actually learn art. It should involve better working conditions so people have the time and energy to learn.

Then people are like "what about disabled people". Most of the people saying this are clearly not disabled themselves and are using disabled people as a shield. A lot of artists are disabled, you have to be extremely disabled for it to be to the point where you can't make art at all.

There's nothing fair or democratic about stealing the art (not to mention images and text) of hundreds of millions of people who put in years and years of practice into their craft.

They experience pleasure from violating others' consent. And they disguise it under the word "democratize" to make it seem like a noble cause.

They celebrate when sites and artists who explicitly say they don't want to be scraped, are scraped. But they don't celebrate when they have permission.

AI bros want the ability to profit off of art without having to be the ones to put in the time. And when others say no to scraping, they're fueled by jealousy and spite.

We live in a world where many people don't have the time to learn new skills due to capitalism but want to and I am sympathetic towards that, but if the experience of making art was what you were after, you wouldn't be using ai as it's incapable of giving you that.

And I say trade because since artists make money off of art, it's a trade.

I'm so tired of the whole "generative ai will democratize art" argument. The word democratize doesn't mean anything here. If someone spent years learning a skill/trade and you're jealous, that doesn't mean it's inequality.
