"Last year, the world’s oceans absorbed an additional 23 zettajoules worth of heat, setting a new record for the ninth year straight. It’s equivalent to Hiroshima bombs going off every second for a year, or roughly 40 times the energy the entire world consumed in 2025." www.cnn.com/2026/09/30/c...

Recently, when I was approaching the escalators at platform level at Melbourne central, a woman who had just arrived on the platform from the escalators stopped in her tracks and muttered loudly to herself 'shit, where am I going'? She rode up in front of me as we both went to State Library station.

When you're in the business of making cars, and the bigger the car, the more profit you make, then such ideas are unthinkable.

On one hand, it's good they tested in Amsterdam. But any framing of the findings that FSD struggles in such cities as being a 'problem' that those cities have is very concerning. Larry also mentioned that Tesla will not be making local variants of their software - the world gets the American build.

He didn't call for changes, but he DID lay the foundations by talking about 'how challenging' such things as cyclists and pedestrians are.

I've long been VERY concerned that the time will come when self-driving car boosters start demanding our cities be modified to enable self driving cars to deal with the last 1% of things (the hardest part) that self driving software can't do. This sounds a bit like Larry is headed in that direction

Self-Driving Claxon Watching an Electric Car live stream now. Larry Evans from the USA talking about Tesla FSD complaining about how the driving environment in Amsterdam is 'very challenging' for FSD because of how they prioritise cycling compared to the USA where the roads are 'wide open'.

Exactly forty years ago today, September 28 1986, I visited the tramway museum at Bylands, Victoria. Here is Melbourne X1 class tram no 467 running on their section of track that then ran north for a few hundred metres from the site of the former Victorian Railways Bylands railway station.
A Melbourne X1 class tram in a rural location, on grassed track with a dual-bracket-arm overhead pole in front of the tram. The tram desto is 'Ordnance Fty'

I doubt anyone instructed them. But by their nature, these models do things we don't expect. Lack of explicit intent by anyone who makes, sells or uses them is no excuse. It ought to be legally analogous to the degrees of carelessless, negligence and recklessness in driving and other endeavours.

I believe these trains are run on electric traction power when travelling in the other direction. They just tow the steamer so it doesn't have to run around the train at the terminus.
