Today marks the 7 Year Anniversary of O-Train Line 1 (September 14, 2019). 12.5km long, 13 stations, and 34 initial light-rail vehicles, the line is expected to expand to Orleans in the coming months, and westbound in 2027-2028.

Pre-Trial Running is planned to run for at least 1 week, then move into Trial Running for a minimum of 3 weeks. After this, another 1-2 weeks are required before it could open to passengers. These are all minimums and can last or be extended longer based on how things go.

The Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR) are due to the ongoing issues with the cartridge bearing assemblies and axles. Once the permanent fix/redesign is in place they should end, however no timeline on that at this time. Recent info sessions suggest they might be lifted much sooner though.

It might seem very low but if we look at the Montreal Metro which is stated to have an average speed of 40kph, it is not far off. And our 34kph average is with the multitude of temporary speed restrictions that do add several minutes to the overall trip... otherwise we would likely be on par.
100
Rail Fans Canada @railfans.ca · 29/08/2026
These are average speeds of a segment, not the maximum speed. For example, this is calculated based on time from start to stop of movement between stations, against the distance between. Time includes acceleration, cruising, deceleration and braking, so there is a whole curve of speeds experienced.

Rail Fans Canada @railfans.ca · 28/08/2026
There wouldn’t be a comparison there would be too many differences and factors. Hoping to add the 2019 runtimes to it soon as a comparison from what it was at opening launch to what it is now.

**Final Update** Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) has successfully completed repairs to the damaged components of the OCS and conducted final inspections. For customers, this means that all Line 1 stations and platforms from St-Laurent to Blair are now open. FULL SERVICE HAS RESUMED.

Repair work between St-Laurent and Cyrville stations will continue following the afternoon peak period. Once the work is done, the OCS will be inspected before service resumes at all platforms. It's anticipated that service at all stations will be restored on Saturday. Updates to come...

Update: O-Train Line 1 Operations Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) has started repairs to components of the overhead catenary system (OCS) between St-Laurent and Cyrville Stations. However, additional components were found to be damaged, and more time is required to safely complete this work.

Rail Fans Canada @railfans.ca · 13/08/2026
I believe today's incident was located between St-Laurent and Cyrville. This was not a snap or break of the OCS wire, but from what I could see, part of the support of the wire at a single location. Definitely less serious than past incidents but to be addressed all the same.

4/4 A Trial Running schedule has not yet been announced. OC Transpo says it is working with RTG and East-West Connectors to determine one. Before Trial Running begins, trains will eventually operate between Tunney's Pasture and Trim — though passengers will still have to get off at Blair.
010
Rail Fans Canada @railfans.ca · 13/08/2026
3/4 Meanwhile, final readiness activities are ramping up on the East Extension. Expect to see an increasing number of out-of-service trains operating between Blair and Trim as crews exercise the system, identify issues and work to improve reliability ahead of Pre-Trial and Trial Running.

Rail Fans Canada @railfans.ca · 13/08/2026
2/4 OC Transpo says it is on target to have enough vehicles equipped by the end of August. The Smart Bugs provide near real-time monitoring of the cartridge bearing assemblies, and OC Transpo says the system, combined with existing safety measures, is helping make more trains available for service.

1/4 🚈 O-Train East Extension update: OC Transpo says work is continuing to prepare the extension between Blair and Trim for Pre-Trial and Trial Running. A key milestone: 80% of the Line 1 fleet required for Trial Running is now equipped with the Smart Bugs condition monitoring system.

Repairs are scheduled to begin around 8 p.m. Tonight, Line 1 will operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Tremblay, with R1 buses between Hurdman and Blair. Repairs are expected to be completed overnight, with regular service resuming Friday morning.

Rail Fans Canada @railfans.ca · 13/08/2026
Once the stopped train is removed, westbound train service between St-Laurent and Blair is expected to resume this afternoon. Passengers in either direction will need to transfer at St-Laurent. R1 and a St-Laurent–Cyrville shuttle will continue.
