Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 28mIt’s absolutely one of my favorite adventures and there is so much space to modify and add to it. 000
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17hI also liked how 4e replace 9 alignments with a straight line Good/Evil system similar to early Basic D&D… except where the extreme ends of the spectrum were the divinity of Lawful Good and the corruption of Chaotic Evil (though people who liked the demon/devil Blood War did not like that part). 010
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17hShadowfell and Feywild were an awesome ideas to replace the older inner planes. The whole idea of nature in a more raw, fey state and then the opposing entropy state of life where corrupted but not quite undead beings lived. Similar to a Ravenloft but not in a gothic horror sense. Loved it. 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 18hThe Reavers of Harkenwold and the larger Nentir Vale setting was one of the best adventure locales to hit D&D in a long time. A fresh new “points of light” setting that harkened back (pun unintended) and fit right alongside the earliest D&D works. ragingowlbear.blogspot.com/2018/09/reav...ragingowlbear.blogspot.com 161
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 18hWe know 4th edition wasn’t perfect, but for those of us who ran it over several years, we learned there was actually a lot to love. Call out your D&D 4e appreciations in the comments. No haters. #dnd #dnd4e 8144

Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 18/09/2026No, you have that reversed. Last year, the Wizards/Digital Gaming division made a bit more than $1 Billion. The rest of Hasbro (toys, etc) made about $100 million. Wizards make 10x more than the rest of Hasbro combined. Harry Potter is a drip in the ocean. You can Google the earnings statements. 000
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 18/09/2026You’re moving the goalposts. The original post was about Brendan Lee Mulligan and LGBTQ allyship. This thread had ZERO to do with Zak. 000
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Zak’s harassment problems had nothing to do with the LGBTQ community. He was harassing ex-lovers. These are not the same thing. Mearls may be a dick, but that problem was not at all related to LGBTQ+ allyship. 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Corellan has been a gender fluid deity since AD&D. The book used “he” in quotes because no one was using “they” as a singular gender pronoun back in the 80’s. 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026It feels counterproductive to build a movement by excluding strong proponents of that movement. 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Does it warrant telling D&D and Magic to pound sand because some other small part of Hasbro has a Harry Potter toy deal? And does Brendan Lee Mulligan who is not only a strong ally but also a force for normalizing worker’s rights also warrant this hatred? 210
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I don’t even play 5e really, unless my group insists. My bigger point is about “cutting off your nose to spite your face” to use the metaphor. D&D is a massive brand that displays its allyship for all its consumers. It has LGBTQ+ characters, trans deities, and very openly support the community. 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026What about D&D’s allyship? D&D has always been super supportive of the LGBT+ community even when it’s not always been financially positive for the brand. 300
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Fair enough. My point is more that it’s easy to call for boycott when it’s a product you didn’t support in the first place. But my deeper point is that purity tests for allyship aren’t alway the best strategy especially when the person is 3 to 4 degrees of separation from the thing you don’t like. 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Do people also not support LEGO or is this selective outrage because it’s Hasbro? 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026But if you want to encourage creative play, perhaps give the attacker an opposed stealth check with bane so it’s not* easy. Backstab is significantly more powerful in Dragonbane than it is in D&D style games because of the low static hit points. Allowing it too easily will tip combat scales. 010
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I think the RAW is pretty clear. The backstabber needs the other person to keep the target distracted as it’s much harder to get in a deadly stab for someone aware of the surroundings. 1/ 110

Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Cyberpunk, yes… but at least in this case, the goal is not dystopian. 110
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 01/08/2026It can easily be addressed in a small sidebar without mechanics, but just a discussion on mature themes. 000
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Yeah, they published a play test A1 - A4, IIRC. 000
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 01/08/2026I like that Mangianello was talking about Dragonlance in the immediate pre-Cataclysm and post Cataclysm world. That would be a new chapter in the Dragonlance setting. It would be cool if they created a low-magic setting variant without the Clerics. 050
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Folks who have been playing since the 80’s and 90’s — we are the outliers. I can’t really blame Hasbro for going back to the well of known IP’s rather than taking a chance on something new/different especially given they can mine old content. Financially, it makes the most sense. 130
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 01/08/2026In a way, Dark Sun *is* new to 80%+ of the D&D audience. The last Dark Sun product was *16* years ago. A whole new generation of D&D players has come along since then. The last WoW supplement was during 3rd edition. Recall that the audience who has been around for decades is *not* the norm. 160
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 24/07/2026For the core mechanics, everything else uses 5.5 (spells, conditions, etc). It’s really just a way to allow classes that haven’t been ported. Anyone else doing this? 100
Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 24/07/2026How many folks are playing #dnd 5.5e with some 5e classes? To be clear, some 5e classes aren’t present in 5.5, so we have decided to use 2014 and 2024 side by side. If you make a 2014 character, the class features/backgrounds come from 2014. If you make a 2024 class, then everything uses 2024. 1/ 110

Raging Owlbear @ragingowlbear.bsky.social · 16/06/2026As a side note, BBSes in the 80’s/90’s were way better than social media because you were very often talking to other locals. I’ve have some lifelong friends of 35+ years whom I originally met over 2400 baud. 2114
