My paper on Lovro Kurelić, an orphaned peasant boy who rose up through education to become the herald of the Holy Roman Empire under Leopold I. He was ennobled and composed the first genealogy of Alexei Romanov, the tsar of Russia. Quite a career. hrcak.srce.hr/340503

The "Beginning of the Kingdom" conference in Split, Croatia (May 8-10, 2025). I argued that Tomislav was definitely a king according to the standards of the age. Pope John X's recognition was in line with Pope John VIII's claim to being the ultimate source of royal legitimacy in the West.

Eighty years, the cut-off point of living, collective memory. It is very difficult to maintain the lessons of an event beyond this point, not impossible, but difficult after eyewitness have passed as well as those they told first hand. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Has it become commonplace for journal submissions not to follow the citation style described in the instructions to authors? Or for said citations to be "all over the place," drawing inspiration from a random assortment of official styles, so to speak?

A sound and well argued call for scholarly and scientific institutions to avoid bolstering hate platforms (with astounding measurements of followers VS reach on X).

Life writes the best of stories. Lovro, an indirect ancestor or mine, a herald of the HRE, was ennobled by the emperor, translated for Leopold I, and authored the first genealogy of the Russian tsars for Alexis I. An amazing career from humble beginnings, owing it (mostly) to education.

finally a reasonable take
Liberals and the left do not need the right to
be online in the way that the right needs
liberals and the left. The nature of reactionary
politics demands constant confrontations-
literal reactions- to the left. People like Rufo
would have a substantially harder time trying
to influence opinions on a platform without
liberals. "Triggering the libs" sounds like a
joke, but it is often essential for segments of
the right. This explains the popularity of some
X accounts with millions of followers, such as
Libs of TikTok, whose purpose is to troll
liberals.
The more liberals leave X, the less value it
offers to the right, both in terms of cultural
relevance and in opportunities for trolling.

To better comprehend why Putin doesn't want to negotiate with Zelensky directly it helps to use a medieval comparison. One only negotiated with those considered peers. Medieval Transformations: Texts, Power, and Gifts in Context. Netherlands: Brill, 2022.

It is so refreshing to be on a network where people argue like civilized folk without flame wars and trolling. Yes, differences of opinion are part of our nature, what makes us human, but it is a sign of being civilized that we can disagree and be polite about it.

At least 49 people were killed in Ukraine’s northeast Kharkiv region on Thursday in what appeared to be one of the war’s deadliest missile strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, describing it as a “fully deliberate terrorist attack” by Russia.
