The increase in card fees & charges for the service beg to differ, prices could be cheaper. Cash for goods/services is still the cheapest method to transact. It's become a pain in the arse because finding a bank to do your cash deposits is near on impossible.

Again, the argument is difficult because in specifics to those with privilege it sounds ridiculous but holistically as a general concept I will always (have to) fall on the side of cash always being important in society. This may be a redundant argument in 100 years by evolution, but not yet.

Oh Neil. It's not that people recieve their income in cash, it's that they withdraw it as cash, don't pay by Direct Debit, make minimum payments, know the foodshop can't cost more than £20, £10 for utilities, put a fiver in the Christmas pot etc.

It's also really astounding the amount of older people who don't online bank & still don't trust banks. Cash is king for a reason.

And having recently been cardless, cash was vital & proved the above point. I had a limited supply, once it was gone it was gone, it was much easier for me to budget & what was left I could get a coffee etc.

It's a really hard argument to have. I have & am mostly entirely cashless. But that comes with massive privilege of not having the worry about funds, access to credit etc. It's much easy on a fixed low income to manage/budget using cash.
