Poet (T.D. Walker, most recently Parallax/Aqueduct Press), cozy mystery author (Tammy D. Walker), and radio enthusiast (KI5ODE). Focusing on being a creative human in 2026 (so more of the same as ever) even though my latest book is about AI....

Started a draft of the next cozy mystery this morning. Returning to work on my first series after focusing on other projects for a while. Nice to be back!

Um, do creeks count? It was creeks mostly where I was from originally. Now it's the Trinity River, though I get to see the North Platte quite a bit too

Okay, thanks for the vote of confidence on my, um, experimental speculative poems about niche modes of communication, I guess? But tbh I'm reading this as 2026 is the year I move to the country (gardens! antenna towers! no leaf blowers!). That said, I am not clever nor fast enough to GOAT, so.... 🤣🐐

I am always genuinely excited for seed catalog season each year. Even after I realize that I don't have enough space, time, or full sun for just about anything, haha. I do buy some seeds and hope, though. Anyone have favorite seed catalogs? Mostly it's PDF for me these days. Mail is more delightful.

My attempts at recording audio books/shortwave radio poetry programs have been thwarted this fall (and now winter, I guess, ugh) by pollen and various contagions, so I think I'm just going to have to run with sounding bad as a way of being more visibly (or audibly?) human 🤣

I so appreciate the fact that Ubrelvy exists, but the whole foil-related gymnastics one is instructed to do to open the packet is kind of out of my skill set when I've got a migraine? Anyway, bread knife for the win. (Don't ask.) Got the pill out, yay. So that's been my morning. How are you?

Yorkshire Tea's Biscuit Brew was good. The Caramelized Biscuit Brew is fantastic. (And this is coming from someone who doesn't usually like flavored tea.) So anyway, thanks to the good folks at Taylors of Harrogate for making the load-bearing caffeine fueling me right now so very delicious

Whoa, I'm not so sure about 2026 when the pantone oracle picks the color I hear right before the migraine makes my entire left side go numb and I can't language for a while until it passes but no this will be okay (haven't had one of those in a while, thank you modern medicine, but still)

Working on a direction* for future writing, a thread: 1.) continued full commitment to no use of AI for any part of the process, 2.) all my publications have at least one human gatekeeper, and 3.) more lived experience in my work. * by direction, do I mean manifesto? Maybe?

Today in suburbia: attempting to grade to the chorus of leaf blowers vs attempting to (and giving up on) grading while some guy goes at a stump with an axe across the street.... We don't often get lumberjacks around here, but it is December, and, um, no, wait, that doesn't follow either

Thinking I have all the NOAA All Hazards Radio recordings for the erasure poem series? Dallas, TX; Dalhart, TX; Scottsbluff, NE; Polson, MT; and now KGG68 out of Tomball, TX. We'll see. They're all from this year, which is . . . timely. Anyway, this is my poetry work for December. #weatherradio

Have decided to rename the drawer in the kitchen where we keep the tea "The Caffeine Center of Excellence." Well, drawers. And the pantry where the overflow goes. And also that shelf by the pantry where we keep the additional boxes of tea that don't fit in the pantry. Also, we drink a lot of tea 🫖

And speaking of audio: working on a shortwave radio program for the new book, Parallax, from Aqueduct Press. More details to come, probably early next year (between semesters). #speculativepoetry #poetryontheradio #poetry #shortwave #shortwaveradio #radio

Definitely switching away to Linux after grades are in. Since my PC is not getting to driving age . . . but close . . . I'm in for an upgrade there too. So buy or build? I haven't put together a PC in ages, but a.) it's fun, b.) I'm still thinking about audio,

In "midlife things I'm not quite sure how I feel about yet" news: when did I go from listening to new music and thinking "you are the sound of my generation" to thinking "what a talented young person you are"? Go ahead and read that second one in a grandma voice, because I sure did, hah.

Working on a series of audio erasure poems using recordings of NOAA all hazards stations I made as I traveled this year. Next up, to fit with the phone phreaking poems, I'd like to do audio erasures of phone error messages (as in "The number you have dialed is no longer in service....") The snag?

AI-generated arts criticism: a thread. So one thing about AI-generated content that I fear as a poet (alongside everything else I worry about as an academic writing instructor, software developer, fan of various arts, and, well, as a human) is AI-generated arts criticism.

I've been there enough now to know that Wyoming actually borders MT, ID, UT, CO, NE, and SD, but it still >feels< like WY also borders North Dakota, Kansas, Oregon, West Virginia, Manitoba, and, like, Liechtenstein for some reason? Especially after flying over. It's large. It's not Texas, but still

Leftover Yorkshire pudding for breakfast is seriously most of the reason I bother to make Yorkshire pudding for dinner 🤣 It's pretty amazing for dinner, too, so there's that. No pics, because I missed that 30 second window where it's impressively inflated. One day, I'll actually get a pic of that.

Just once, instead of a "friendly" reminder, I want someone to email me with any different kind of reminder. I will accept "grouchy reminder," "indifferent reminder," "passive aggressive reminder,' and possibly "a reminder that carries with it the rage of a thousand angry wasps descending upon you."

When you've spent too many days wandering the path of retro tech and decide, y'know, why not write an entire poetry collection about phone phreaking? This will probably be more interesting than current stalled-out project. Also, this will be a departure from current complete manuscript, which is a +

Retro-tech thoughts: Had an odd realization years ago that 80s kid me who was fascinated by tiny TVs would have geeked out over watching videos on my phone. Current me hasn't watched TV in a good decade, has no plans to, and really really does not want to do so on a phone screen....

So far, I've had a positive experience with bsky. Would love a couple things: first, make the media settings sticky so I don't have autoplaying videos autoplaying at me when I log in again. And second: more reactions. "Heart," but also, "sad," "what?," "care," "is that a spider," and "nope nope nope

In "new adventures" this morning: managed to release a yellow jacket wasp that was flying around the house. This was an "open the door and hope from across the room" operation, not, as I do with spiders, a gentle "here, climb up on this paper towel so I can release you into the wild" maneuver.

So, I write cozy mysteries, but unlike most cozies, the crimes are property crimes or, if there are victims who are physically harmed in some way, they all survive. And spouse gave me one possible name while reaching for the word "cozy" but landing on "comfy" instead, which works, but, hear me out:

I like the people in the house. I just can't solo rage clean when there are other people in the house 🤣

One of the reasons I keep writing: I read reviews for a very specific reason (tropes! because I very much want to give my readers something they're looking forward to in a cozy mystery!), and reading that my novels made reviewers laugh out loud is really just the best. Right now, especially.
