Sep. 27, 1997: Bob Dylan performed for Pope John Paul II at a huge Catholic youth gathering in Bologna, Italy. John Paul II even referenced “Blowin’ in the Wind” in his remarks — though future Pope Benedict XVI later admitted he wasn’t exactly sold on inviting Dylan. The ’90s, folks. 😆

Sep. 27, 1947: Meat Loaf was born Marvin Lee Aday in Dallas. From Bat Out of Hell to The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Fight Club, subtlety was never really his thing — and thank goodness for that. He passed in 2022 at 74, but that voice remains gloriously larger than life. 🦇🤘

Sep. 23, 1980: Bob Marley played his final concert at Pittsburgh’s Stanley Theatre. The 20-song set ended with a six-minute version of “Get Up, Stand Up.” His declining health soon ended the Uprising tour. Marley died of melanoma less than eight months later, at just 36. 🇯🇲❤️💛💚

Sep. 20, 1970: Jim Morrison was convicted of indecent exposure and profanity stemming from The Doors’ infamous 1969 Miami concert. He died while appealing the conviction in 1971. Nearly 40 years later, Florida granted Morrison a posthumous pardon.
