A radioactive legacy hiding beneath Byron Bay 🇦🇺☢️ Heavy mineral sand mining began in the area in the 1930s, and monazite containing naturally radioactive thorium was part of those deposits. Some leftover material can still be detected today.

People used to drink from RADIOACTIVE glass… ☢️ This amber glass… actually contains uranium. Uranium compounds were used to color glass for more than a century, creating shades from yellow to green and that iconic bright glow under UV light.
