And you can see it in the evals, Opus 5 benches better than fable all over the place! I’m sure it’s not actually a qualitatively _smarter_ model,,, i’m expecting it’ll still have a bit of that opus feel to it…. but it’s still wild to see all that crammed into an opus line’s worth of compute.

Yeah, for Rust. IDK what it would actually take to _get_ to that (don't know the project that well), but I think that's a target that would unlock live, hot reloading for native rust GUIs. (100x is based on the speed up the Roc compiler observed from switching to Zig)

Saw this post and it really struck me how James is spot on for non-coding tasks. I ask LLMs about recipe modifications, get help orienting with finances, and talk about how to understand cat body language. A lot of those things can, arguably should, be done by the people in your life.

Music, writing, advice, laughter, guidance, feedback, planning, illustration, admiration, completion, philosophy, congratulation, accomplishment, communication itself, ritual act, simple companionship … even the quiet practice of hinting at things!

Ai cannot do MAGIC, not now, not in ten thousand years. But it can erase and suppress and destroy magic - clumsily and predictably.

Unfortunately, some LLM discourse is still on X. Which means I get to see their totally incorrect takes on LLM. The reason you have to review every line of LLM code is because they are impossible to trust. They have no skin in the game, no feedback mechanism, and no way to learn one.

Effective mental models are still important for humans to sustainably maintain and evolve a codebase via prompting alone.

I think of it like, when working on a team, do you *need* to understand every line of code your coworkers commit? Obviously not. Taking over a legacy code base, do you need to understand every single line of code before you can contribute? Obviously not. Do you need to fully understand every line of agent output? Well, probably not.

At the very least: it depends.

What’s funny is that the only reason it took a year was because of the process regulators required for vaccines. The actual vaccine itself was developed much faster than the rollout.
