Who used the library in 1900? This reader application form was submitted by Isaac Schliffer a bookbinder from Moss Side. To use the library’s collection today you can apply online and make an appointment to access the collections. Or you can browse digitised collections available online.

The Forgotten Library is now open! The exhibition explores the personal book collection of Enriqueta Rylands, founder of The John Rylands Library. Kept at her home, Longford Hall, the collection reveals her life as a passionate reader and collector. Open Wednesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm. Free entry.

Anyone who knows immigration bureaucracy will know that people who seek asylum because they are gay undergo hostile and humiliating scrutiny. Media reports that suggest people “pretend to be gay because it’s an easy route for a visa” are missing the glaring fact there is no “easy” way to get asylum.

When people talk about the idea that some universities must go under, there’s a certain tendency to behave as if these smaller local campuses are negligible- regrettable casualties perhaps but not ‘real’ universities. This report does a great job of illustrating why that’s wrong.
