Has anyone ever reported a missing word to the Spelling Bee had found it subsequently accepted? I mean, I can’t believe this hasn’t been reported MANY times. It has several perfectly common meanings.

Is it just me? This is a legit word, right? And not even obscure. Is it because it needs the word UP after?

Neighbour gave me a peony he was digging up. Brought it round in a wheelbarrow with a massive root ball. It sulked for two years. This year it got buds and I convinced myself they wouldn’t open because peonies love to tease you like that. But then

Look what’s arrived, just in time for National Flash Fiction Day tomorrow. Still thrilled to bits to have the title story this year. What an honour. @joannacampbell.bsky.social’s cover is a stunner. #NFFD26 @natflashfictionday.bsky.social

Look at the difference. Six months, give or take. A wet winter and cold spring and yet here we are. Eventually there will be lots of height as well as colour and the ponds will be tucked away.

While the new half of the garden establishes itself, it’s helpful to remind myself what a difference a few years makes. Here’s part of the ‘old’ garden. Nothing but scrubby grass three years ago. Dug over and sparsely planted with tiny cheap perennials. Now…

What a lovely start to the week. Swallows (I assume?) skimming over the River Derwent. I didn’t catch the ones swooping inches from my face. Sound on for the freshest, most relaxing Monday morning vibe ever. 🐦🪶

Set up the ‘irrigation system’ for the new garden (two sprinklers, 2 hoses, tap splitter that took two days of finagling to stop dripping) because it’s been so sunny and dry. I’m so sorry if I’ve ruined your bank holiday weekend.

#Bird🐦🪶 Bluesky: what’s going on here? This crow keeps moving the camera we have set up near our pond. Sometimes I find it halfway across the garden. Sometimes it’s IN the pond. Crows are clever. What’s he trying to do? (ALT TEXT Crow selfie video taken by camera it is tossing around).

One of the joys of moving out of London and up North was getting away from these screeching menaces that drown out other birds and strip trees bare. So this was not a happy sight this morning.

At the other end of the garden, the final phase: log cabin is up. Much cheaper than a swanky oven-ready garden room but let me tell you, untreated timber is NEEDY. Nearly a week later and we’ve only just finished treating and priming. Painting this week. AT LAST. (Reposted minus typos)
